Hi guys,

My rear wiper on 1989 90 has stopped working and it gets very hot. I'm not sure which way the switch works now but it's turned anti clockwise so I think it's getting power while it's off. Would this indicate a short? Will the motor be toasted? Any input greatly received.

I had this on mine and ordered a new motor, but in the meantime took the old one apart and found that the magnets on the outside of the casing had detached themselves from the casing, so i harold-tighted them back on and put it all back together (all very fiddly with the bushes) but now works right as rain (!!!) - it's a bit noisy though but does the job so i now have a spare motor for when it really goes kaput! (spare motor courtesy of eagle eyed ratty and ebay!)

Hi Odenne

I saw that thread but I didn't think it was the same problem. Was yours always live and was it getting hot. How much is a new/2nd hand motor?

Hi

Yeah it got hot but then burnt the fuse, which was getting a bit boring! The new motor was about £15 but they generally seem to go for at least 3x that (cheers Ratty!!!:D:D:D)

It was always live i think only coz the motor had obviously burnt out not in the "park" position (obviously, as in the park position there wouldn't be any current getting to it!!) - now the park doesn't work but the motor does. If it burnt out in use, it will always have power irrespective of the position of the switch (which incidentally, to the right (clockwise) is on). It might be that yours burnt out with only one bush in contact which might not be enough to blow a fuse, but i would guess that's the problem. You should test it with a multimeter!

Good luck!
