I have a 2003 Land Rover Freelander 5 door, my problem is that the tail door window dropped down after a frosty night!! and refuses to go back up, i have tried removing the battery lead to recalibrate it but all i get now is a beep when i press the switch, it will not rise when using the key on the tail get either.Any help would be very much appreciated as i recently had a huge garage bill as two of the other window motors packed in, as well as the head gasket failing.

Wouldn't think a cable just breaks during frosty night. But if it has, yes the bike brake cable will do the trick. Done it myself. Look for the post by Michiel van der Ven about it.

I had my tail window dropping when changing my battery. Can't exactly put my finger on it, but seem to note that a duff battery had something to do with it. Also when the door hasn't closed properly/something in between it effects the logic in the (tail)window.

The one here did, opened and closed fine until one day last winter it stopped working as if by magic. Cable was rusty and had gone ping during the night while under tension holding the window up. Its easy to check, just take off the inside back panel and have a look.

It will also drop if battery power is low or interrupted - its a saftey thing apparently to prevent being shut out during maintenance, etc.

Although a quick squirt of WD or similar in the door closing catch could sort it before hauling it all apart though just in case it's not quite shutting. Any one from three..........

Decided to try and re calibrate window so disconnected battery for 10 seconds, started engine and left at 1500 rev's for 10 seconds, then closed the tail door glass, which to my amazement closed, then in line with the recalibration I opened the window,ok so far..tried to close the window again, it got about six inches up, four beeps and went back down again. Went through the recalibration again but still will only rise about six inches, four beeps and drops down again. Went out for a spin, pressed the rear window button, window went up all the way, four beeps and went straight back down again....Left it a couple of hours, recalibration process again, window went all the way up, four beeps and back down again. Seems that if it is left for an hour or more it will close all the way, but will allways drop back down again after the four beeps have sounded, every attempt after that it will only raise about 6 inch, and then beep and drop down again..all help will be very much appreciated....

Did you do this on battery, or with car running ?

Think duff battery or interrupted power ,as hippolover said, could have something to do with it.

If you have not opened the door since the window closed properly, you can delete that for causing the problem.

I recalibrated it with the engine running, have also tried with battery only plus using ther key on back door, this only brings the window up about 4 inch..have opened the door since the problem..

Have you checked the multi plug connector in the tail door? It could be corroded and only making partial contact. They can suffer from condensation and corrosion and a poor connection thinks the power is off and it opens as per its safety mode.
