I need to do the rear hub bearings, they are totally goosed, maybe sitting in 2 foot of water for 3 hours didnt help:eek:

so a quick question, what tools should i be needing i butchered a front on the other day as it was a must, but im now on look out for a new stub axle as a result of the fact the bearing inner had welded itself onto the shaft, and i had to cut it off and do my best to bring the shaft back to smooth and round, i failed, but its on and not wobbling too much.

I have read busters how to's but they are for a defender i think and not quite the same, also checked rave and what they had to say about it but just thought i would ask if anybody had any further tips and tricks i might be able to use,

I have searched and found a few things but asking specifics cant hurt can it;)

TIA

get a new stub axle where required.

i had to cut one bearing inner off, but the stub axle only had a few nicks in it, so i reused it.

otherwise, the only 'special tool' is a 52mm box wrench, theyre about 6 quid off britpart or ebay. or you can get the 52mm socket, which is dearer, but easier to use for torque wrenches etc.

cheers.

well the rears are done and the fronts are nipped up and awaiting a delivery of a new stub for the offside, some smart arse had changed the outer bearing and left the inner one on as it was welded to the stub axle so subsequently i now need a new stub axle, i cut the old inner off and ground the shaft down as round as possible but it wont last long i reckon.

the rears were an absolute dream to do once i had sawn through the seized calliper bolt, drilled out the remainder and retapped just to be sure, after that little episode everything went well.

even changed both diffs oil, one shot greased both front swivels and tried but failed to identify another little oil leak, i had that much ep90 on me, in me, around me i just couldnt tell if the new stuff was gearbox oil engine oil or just plain old diff oil, sod it i will wait and see what needs topping up next that might help identify the bastard.

the old bearings were stuffed full of crud from my last time out wading/swimming/getting stuck it was even the same colour as the mud at my new playground.

Oh and when i was finishing my marathon 10 hours in the garage i stood in the waste oil pan full of two diffs and two swivels worth of proper ****ty looking EP, right up to the ankle, joy joy joy, and worst thing was i was at the mother inlaws and it was ****ing it down so had to drive back with only one shoe and walk through puddles back to the flat, ARSE!

but thanks for your advice guys it helped a lot.

this is all that was left of the front o/s inner bearing the inner is on the right and the outer on the left, some smart arse had only done one last time me thinks!
