Rear seat release catches not working

2000 5dr

Rear seats in the upright position but both the release catches to fold the 60/40 seats aren't working. The driver's side catch feels loose, probably the cable's broken or dislodged, lock indicator button on top of the seat is flush with the top of the seat. Passenger side feels ok but probably the cable's stretched?

How do the back of the seats come off to access the cables when in the latched upright position please?

Try a sharp jolt with lever pulled up

spray some WD40 into the catch, mine sometime need a good whack to get them working,

the handles on both of mine were broken i used a couple of cable ties 1 round the cable holding the 2nd tie and then the 2nd one in a loop for my finger... refit the broken handle and its just sat there ready to be pulled

not the best fix but has been a few months now and because i dnt use the seat release much i didnt see the point in fixing when i have other stuff to do
