Rear prop question

Taking off the props on my Disco 1 300, and while pushing and shoving the spline popped out on the rear one. Is it a case of just popping it back in and making sure the seal is okay...or is it more complicated? Also there are cracks in the rubber donut, it looks like any easy job, is there anything I should be aware of first?

the prop has to be aligned exactly the same as before, otherwise it will vibrate like mad. As for the donut - DV is yo man

as daft says,
i did same with rear prop,
mis aligned and forced the inner shaft in with a hammer, and fooked it.
Concentrate and be gentle and it should slide in correctly when you match the correct splines.

Thanks for the reply, I made marks with tippex on where it connects to the car but pulling it off as said the spline popped out. Question is how can I tell where the exact slots that the splined shaft connected to the splinned sleeve originally...if I understand correctly

Okay, I'm getting the picture it can only fit one way (leaving the hammer out of it...) The rubber donut then, it only looks like removing four bolts and slapping on a brand spanking new one. If only that easy. Btw, I'm having trouble taking of the front props, a 14 mm socket and spanner should be the answer but the sockets seem to round off the nuts as they're on a slight angle due to the awkward shape of the props. Any tips in whipping them off?

Clean the propshaft and look carefully, you should find an arrow on the end of the shaft and one on the yoke that attach to the UJ, just line the arrows up - simples.

They can be easy to miss. I found the best way to see then is to wipe silver or white paint on the ends and then wipe lightly with a cloth which should bring them up.

ring spanner, socket.
put front up on axle stands, and rotate prop so that each bolt is to your favour, hand brake between rotations.

The prop shaft nuts aren't 14mm ... they're 9/16ths, that's why they're rounding off!!

got one on order...hope it comes soon. How about sticking on the new donut on the rear prop any advice you can give before I start?

I always put bolt head to the rubber and nuts to the flanges, so three one way and three the other. No real reason other than I reckon the bolt heads shouldn't turn, so want to be next to the rubber so there's less chance of stressing it during fitting. I know it's unlikely anyway, but ...
