REAR LOCK

@Mackers
Open the door & close the catch manually.
You will see it goes on 2 stages
First stage(first click) won't lock.
Second stage(second click) will lock.
These locks will not lock unless the catch is 2 staged closed.
If this works we will go to the next process ;)

That explanation (knowing there's stages) was enough on its own. Very grateful. I put the catch as close to the seal as possible. Went inside and closed the door. Stage one I think, as door wouldn't lock from outside when I climbed out of driver's door. Slammed the door. Stage two. Door locks. Neighbours won't like it when I load the dogs up at 5.30am, but the seals are new. Hopefully they'll bed in quick. Cheers.

Good you have to slam & worked it out. It's not the seals ;)
Get a screw driver & remove the black wedge of the door catch. Close the door see if this works

Yeah. Lock still works with wedge off. Might be psychological, but feels like a nicer click to the locking?

Just been trying different grades of closing. I major slammed it before the wedges were off. A firm close is doing it. The door won't lock if I try and close it quietly, but the latch is as far forward as it's going to go. Fortunately the door's going flush to the other rear panel now, which it wasn't doing with the other lock when the latch was butting the seal. I'm chuffed with it now. Nice clicks when I lock and unlock. I've not been able to lock it since I got it, so all's good. Have I to leave the wedges off then?

I'm getting all new discs and pads and rear hub seals next week, plus sump leak sorted. My rear pads were sopping due to hub seals. Even front ones are putting streaks on the chrome ball joints. Funny thing is, the rear hub seals were fails in 2017, but then it passed, so I was surprised when the garage told me they had been perished for ages, especially since it sailed through it's MOT the day before I bought it three weeks or so ago. Garage said I should think about a discovery axle in the future (better brake system or something).

Shirley you can slacken off the bolts to slide the pillar pin part to and fro for best contact, save some slamming or wedge removal perhaps...? A

Did you change the catch on the back body?
If you did see if the old one activates the lock. You can Do this without fitting.
If it works fit & try this.
Did you get your lock from sp4x4?
The black wedge only stops the latch moving.
As for the disco axle it would only be better if you still have drum breaks on yours. But if these are looked after the drum brakes are fine.

Like I said, to is as far away from fro as it can go. Keeping wedge off. Really happy.

Just checked Ebay account. I just bought the whole lock from rstlandrovers, so I've got the old lock still. The catch (if that's the arc and the thing that moves on the arc with the black tip) doesn't move 90% of the time when I turn the key, sometimes does, but not with a click for lock and unlock. I think it's had its day. Very pleased and thanks for helping. This is it finished (I started it at about 2 o'clock though, and it always amazes me how many emptied tins and bits of tools I end up with all around me).

The catch on the back body (that had the wedge)have you changed this?

Try the old 1 on your new lock to see if it works.
The new 1 may be thicker/wider & causing you the probs

Oh no. I know what you mean now. No I didn't get one of those. It was just the lock that came. I thought there'd be a gasket with it but there wasn't, or screws and nuts.
