i've got a 98 r reg disco(v8 gs model),in the rear lights on the pillar should i have side lights.i have brake lights, fog lights and reverse lights and there is spare holes in the cluster, just wondered if there should be lights aswell.
i have side lights and indicators in the bumper.

In my 96 Disco I have rear lights and indicators in both the pillars and the bumpers. Try a search for "sidelights" as there are differences in model years by Landrover.
I like the 4 rear lights and two indicators for safety reasons and I believe you can change your lights to suit as the wiring is all in place.

side lights yes only if you have indicators

do a search on here lots of rear light 300tdi threads

yours is same as mine

buy 200tdi rear cluster units and connect them in, same plugs so no wiring to do 20 mins and 4 knuckles late you have 4 side lights and 4 indicators

You may want to get a 3+3+2 indicator (think that's the right one) relay as well, cos when you put the extra indicators in you'll get the trailer light coming on every time you switch on the indicators.

ependa on the relay already fitted mine made no difference, but it don't have the warning light tab so will not flash the console - standard Runit as well

will swap if you want to stop the console warning light;)

Changed my rear light clusters and now get trailer light, can someone provide more info on this relay name, type, I should ask for ta:)

The Discoverys with no bumper lights have the PRC 8878 relay, which doesn't have the rating if you put extra indicators into the quarter lights.
I believe the relay type we need to get is AMR4873, it's rated between 4x21W+5W+1.2W and 8x21W+2x5W+2x1.2W so it should cover for the extra indicators.

Gonna get one after Xmas and try it to see if that sorts the trailer warning light (at least whilst I'm not towing a trailer!)

Cheers for info if I get one soon will let you know if works:)

The relay you need to change is on the top right hand side of the main fuse box behind the drivers side facia panel. The square black box just plugs in and can be removed and replaced without any difficulty or tools. It might be an idea to check which relay type you already have installed, this can be done by checking if it's got three or four pins and reading the type info on the side of the relay. I'm ordering a relay from Rimmer Bros on Friday, so will update when I've got it fitted as to whether or not this does the trick.

Tuskenraider,
Just got some info that the PRC8878 was for pre-1994 Disco 1's and this relay has 5 pins and it might not fit a post 1994 Disco. It depends on what relay holder you have and how many pin slots it has, as they (LandRover) changed the holders as and when they started including/removing rear quarterlight clusters. Typically, nothing electrical is ever straightforward.

The best bet is to check the relay holder on the fuseboard to see if it has four or five pin slots on it, before ordering a replacement relay.

The relay type you will need Tuskenraider is more likely to be a YWT 10003 Relay, with 3 pins. That's the relay currently in my 1998 Disco 300TDi although the holder has four pin slots on it, so I need to get the AMR 4873.

Good news is that the YWT 10003 is available on ebay for about 3 quid each, as opposed to 20-30 quid for the AMR4873.

I too had the trailer light coming on when I indicated - only for the first flash.

Here is my easy fix to stop the light flashing....pull out the relay, get some wire and spade connectors, and made extensions for the relay, and then only plug in 3 of the 4 pins, and presto - no more trailer light flashing - and as I don't have a tow bar fitted, jobs a good one for me :D

Thanks for the info. Why is nothing fooking easy

Ive just done my side lights in the pillars. I had to cut a small piece of the connector metal and join that via a spade terminal and wire to the plug. Actually that doesnt help much, can anyone describe it better?

I've just got a pair pillar lights with indicators, was gonna fit friday. As i understand from what has been said, the trailer light on dash will flash when using indicators.
At the moment with trailer plugged in light on dash don't work, so will i need to change relay?

That's because you fitted lamps from a 200 series which required a small modification to work on the 300s wiring.
If you had fitted 300 series lamps it would have been plug&play as you have compatable wiring, and just different lamps fitted on the 300 98MY.
