Hi All,
Have a question about the orientation of the handbrake lever within the rear drums of a Freelander 1 2.0 TD4. As I mentioned in my 'Introduction', I am blind, but was previously a qualified mechanic. However, some things do get past me and the correct orientation of the handbrake lever within the drum is one as it is only depicted by photos and does not have a written explanation. So, here is my 'very silly' question:
I can strip down the entire handbrake system, brake shoes and cylinders, re-install them and adjust as necessary. However, when opening up the drum and 'feeling' about, I noted that the pivoting cable connection is located on the outside of the shoes. Now, this is where I have the problem. At times, the handbrake will stick on and 'lock' the back wheel and it takes an awful lot of effort to remove the drum to free this off. By the time I have the drum off, there is no sign of anything snagging, but it is definitely snagging once the drum is on. As I say, the pivotting part of the handbrake lever (where the cable connects to the pivot) is on the outside and while I am not entirely certain, I think the pivot might have to go to the inside of the brake shoes. Can anyone confirm if the pivotting part of the handbrake lever between the shoes goes to the outside or the inside?
Once again, apologies for such a simple question, but cannot find the answer anywhere.
