Ive just converted my 90 truck cab to hard top and dont have a key for the rear door lock. After taking the lock mechanism off I was hoping to swop the barrel over for a new one with keys, But on inspection it looks like a factory sealed unit so no easy access to the barrel. . Is there a way of accessing the barrel on this unit without damaging it , or is it complete replacement mechanism job ? There are some numbers stamped on the surround flange and and patent No on lock rear. Do these have any reference to key numbers?
Thank you

Cheers for the answers guys, but using key is not an option as I dont have one. (As I said in question) So it looks like ive got to destroy the old barrel by drilling out enscrution and levers or replace whole unit.

maybe putting the drill bit into a drill, turning it on and then putting it through the hole and applying pressure would help remove the retaining pin allowing the lock to come out.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

my post (#3) says to drill it out if you dont have the key. why are you getting shirty about loosing a key and having to use a drill?
My appologies this reply was not aimed at you.
but at rattys patronising post
All i can gather from these answers is that THE KEY IS NEEDED to remove barrel WHICH I HAVE STATED I DO NOT HAVE

What kind of t w a t answer is that..?

You are most welcome to call me patronising but my first post explained that a screwdriver or drill bit (note 2 different methods) could be used to disable the pin. There was your first hint.

The small brass pin that holds the barrel in place is inside a hole. When the lock is turned it allows the pin to be pushed into a recess in the lock. If the barrel cannot be turned, inserting a drill bit which happens to be itself inserted in a drill, which in turn is best used turned on, will allow the pin to be ground down allowing the lock to be removed. I could have simply said use a self tapping screw and slide hammer but this method CAN cause damage to the casing which you would like to re-use. Therefore the answers which I gave can in no way be misunderstood to have said that the key is required for said removal of said lock as I most clearly stated even in my first post the word drill bit.
