Rear door handle

My defender, like all others, collects rain water in the rear door handle recess. After a bit of rain, I have about 3mm of water collected there.

Anyone got any bright ideas about how to stop this?

I was thinking of either filling in the bottom of the recess, with a slope towards the front of the door,
AND\OR
Fitting a little eyebrow above the handle recess.

Any thoughts?

Yes it's a pain and a real design flaw which affected the Series front doors too! A cover over the housing wouldn't stop rain blowing in if it's windy so unless anybody has a better idea putting an angled lip of filler inside the handle and painting seems to be the best option.
