Hi Dawn,

Not to seem like a grammar Nazi but some punctuation would be nice, my head hurt after reading that.

To address your question, if you can get the door open take the trim panel off and then make sure all the connections are free from corrosion and have no play in them. If you do that then we can move on to the next thing to check :).

hi sorry been long wet day.ok will try that but it seemed fun that i tapped the lock and it worked been fine since this morning.

You sure can :). While you're in there, find the microswitch and pack something behind it or screw in a small self tapper to take out the play. Mines been 100% fault free since I did that :).

Will.

The micro switch is in the handle. If you look under the handle you can see two small screws, you can remove the latch and micro switch with out removing any other parts. Once you unplug the conector from the switch, you can bridge the conector and see if you get the corect operation of rear door. All you have in the handle is the latch and switch, number plate light and the window up barrel

No the microswitch that causes the problems is in the locking mechanism. There also one in the handle but it isn't usually the problem.

so it could be that do u have to take the whole door handle of to replace them

To replace the springs you have to yes, to pack something behind the siwtch no, you just need to remove the lock actuator assembly.

It's all very well covered in the Hayne's manual :).

ok thanks when u say pack somethink behind it like what and why pack somethink behind it

There is about 2mm of play, ie the switch moves around underneat the moving part that depresses it when the door is closed. Just crappy LR build quality that was never addressed. You will need to push the switch in as far as it will go and then screw a small self tapper through the plastic housing behind it to stop it popping back up.

Clearly I'm going to have to write a how to on this, it comes up so often. Can't really be f**ked to take my tailgate apart again right now so I'll just wait for DD's to start acting up. It's bound to happen one day.

lololol ok so its the switch that is in the handle its self also do u no if u can buy the gasket for the handle been looking but no joy

No the switch is indside the lock, this thing:

There are contacts inside the handle but they aren't the problems, although rotted springs wont help. The lock is actually inside the door assembly itself. Seriously, buy a Hayne's and it will be crystal clear in seconds :).
