How easy/difficult is it to change the rear disks and pads on a Disco I. Read through the RAVE destructions, and do I really need to completely dismantle the hub prior to removing the disk?

Also, is this an evening job or one to be left to the weekend?

i believe it is a hub dismantle jobby as the disks are attached to the hubs, not just over the top of them. I gotta full set of new rear disks, calipers and pads, if yu need em, coz i think i will be changing the complete rear axle. Check the calipers tho, coz it is common for the pads to wear thro the calipers so much that the pads fall thro the calipers and rest on the hub:eek:.

apparently one of the tricks is, once the hubs have been removed, is to mount them arse about face to assist in undoing the disk bolts.

just bolt the removed hub back onto a roadwheel on the floor and it does make it easy (easier) to undo the disc bolts

I did this a recently and didn't find it too bad of a job, struggled seperating the disc and hub as they had rusted together but managed to beat it off with a hammer in the end

Definately a weekend job. Drain the rear diff before you start as you need to remove the drive shafts. Rmoving discs from hub is a pig, but bolting to spare wheel makes it a bit easier. Do wheel bearings and oil seals at the same time, the seals don't like being disturbed, if they need done later, you have to dismantle the hub all over again. 52 mm box spanner/socket is needed to remove hub nuts, read manual carefully before replacing nuts, the inner must be tightened to approx 90 lb/f (to seat the bearing) then slackened right off before final tighten to 9 lb/f.

yu dont need to drain the diff - if yu jack up one side at a time - angle the rear axle so that the oil doesnt drain out. At least in theory that shud work .
