Seem to have this prob with the rear diff keep blowing twice in the last two weeks not through off roaring the first time
Cannot work out why any ideas
Thanks

When you say blowing. How has it broken???

Have you ripped teeth off the crownwheel,
has the carrier broke up?
Has the cross pin broken?

Was the second one in gwo when you fitted it??

I ave a 4 pin Diff thats far far stronger for sale to the comp safari guys however its not a cheap £40 old diff.

Most likely a problem with the nut behind the wheel.

40 years of LandRovering, on and off road, and never a broken half-shaft or diff.
They're like wimmins, treat em well and they'll look after ya. Abuse em, and they'll let ya down.

I've only ever broken diffs shafts abusing them.

Diff lock engaged even for a week on road Tarmac would only cause increased wear and tear yes wind up does increase wear and tear it shouldn't destroy anything further more anyone worth their salt would know the difference in feel between Locke and unlocked and this wind up should not be used to scare people into not putting diff lock in where traction is likely to be reduced. I.e even a gravel or grassy field.

One snapped cross pin and fired out of the diff casing like a bullet says different Jai.
That was my experience of driving a disco on kl71s with it stuck in diff lock. Gravel, grass etc the wheel can slip to relieve the wind up but tarmac and grippy tyres don't like to give much.
Just saying what happened to me.

When you rebuilt it was it done at a proper diff shop or you did it yourself ?
What tire size are you using and what king of offroading were you doing ? Mud or rocks ?

I would suggest it was stuck in diff lock for a very very long time or you had issues such as the cross pin has already seized in one gear. You feel it when it's in diff lock you would know straight away how it feels tight.

A diff needs to be built bang on if not it will let you down.

The amount of rusty crap being sold as good second hand units on eBay and forums really surprise me.
