Up **** creek.
Hi guys,

i noticed today that my front discs are really nice and shiny as they should be whereas the rear ones are slightly more rusty, one is even noticably shinier around about the 1st inch of the outer circumference of the disc giving me the impression that the pads are not pressing against the discs on the back correctly or with as much pressure as they should.

Can anyone shed any light as to possible causes and solutions? cheers.

Oh, and i put new discs and mintex pads on it about 7 months (about 2500 miles) ago.

:)

The rears don't work as much as the fronts, but as V8_Disco said, it is probably the pistons starting to seize in the calipers.

Both our rears are fully shiny inside and out (Disco 2) but the calipers may be different on Disco 1's.

mine did this as the little metal clips that hold the pads square to the disc had all broken and the pistons needed freeing aswell now they are fine

just a quick update:- i went down my hill today doing a few deliberate emergency stops to see if the rear discs just needed a little bit of extra use and when i got to the bottom i checked the discs, just the same. I carefully felt them and the front 2 where very warm as expected, the rear passenger one was a bit warm but the rear drivers one was cold. Does this sound like seized pistons? and if so how do i sort it? cheers.

Could be but the only way to find out is to jack up and spin the wheel the get someone to press the brake peddle if the u can still spin the wheel there's a problem and the piston/s are sticking and require replacing which is an easy-ish job.
