Morning world, i have an issue with my boot lock button on my 2000 P38. Initially it was stiff and once pushed in to firstly unlock the upper tailgate, it stuck in meaning i had to use a screw driver to work it back out again. A little WD40 sorted this for a while, now it has failed totally and does nothing, will not open the upper or lower whatsoever. Is there an override or an easy way to get the lock out ? Thanks Elliot:(

I will try that, can the lock be taken apart & repaired ? I am guessing by you saying "replace the spring" it can be repaired ? I know lots of units such as this are pretty much "throw away" and once inop cannot be repaired, do these locks come apart easily ? Thank you

Once you get the button out, you can take it apart, the back twists after you push and hold in the locking tab. you will find the spring has rusted away. I went to the local aeromodeller shop and bought a length of piano wire cheaply and wound a new spring round a suitable former.
Refitted with plenty of silicon grease.
While you have it off, check the connector for corrosion.:)

Did that but with the boot shut they are really hard to get to. Managed to get a 2 pence in there to turn them but still did not have enough movement of the panel downwards to be able to remove it without damaging it. Any way with as little damage as possible it is out, boot lock spring is knacjhdgfgrtey$$%%&&ered as you can see in the pictures, i am surprised it ever worked at all. Actually i thought i could just upload a pic, it seems that i cannot ?

Ok great, now i have fixed the button & checked continuity between the 2 pins with the button depressed, all good. Now when i have put the button back onto the car-nothing. Even connecting the points in the plug that goes onto the button unit does nothing. LOST AGAIN.

Look at fuse 15 under seat.

Many thanks for your response, i checked fuse #15 all good, so i locked then unlocked it & thought i'd give it another press, it works now ? I'm going MAAAAAD !! Could it be linked to my front door issue ? Thanks Elliot

Maybe you didn't check the connector for corrosion? It's hard to see but causes intermittant lock problems.
