As ever i am unsure if i have an original or later part on my 85 one ten ..i have searched a few threads and utube videos but just thought i would ask about removing the seal before i take my 3lb hammer and chisel to it. I have the axle off to do the rear chassis and thought i would sort out its leaks whilst it was off (breather was toast) so thought i would do seals as well.
I was unsure of this as the casting from the axle appears to have a lip if anyone could advise before i hit it that would be great..i have ordered new seals and a seal dust cover (maybe right maybe not!)
Also if there is enough on the photos to age the axle, let me know please
Thanks in advance
Matt

you will need some form of tool like a suitable sized outer bearing race to knock it home with so you dont damage the seal

As ever thank you, not the first time you have helped me out... i note as ordered the gasket that its post 86 which suggests this is later than the 85 plate on the land rover, i also notice it has anti roll bar brackets on it i assume they are a later edition also as none were present on the vehicle.
I am replacing the trailing arm bush bracket thingies with some i got from yrm is there any problem when welding to the axle that i could affect the oil / shaft inside? they are 6mm brackets so i am going to stick weld them on and was concerned about cooling them down straight off with water as the axle is cast...they are designed to be welded on but it got me thinking..or over thinking!
thanks Again
