Re series 3 gearbox

i live near stevenage and have a series 3 land rover. i cant get it into 3rd or 4th gear. ive taken the top out and it looks like the 3 springs have disapered.

no local garage fix gear boxes. should i try myself?

i cant actulay find a secondhand gear box anyway

a & m gearboxes in edmington say its to much hassle and they dont do them.

help and suggestions would be great, even **** taking right now would help cheer me up!

unless you are alergic to a little spannering you could do the job for less than a fiver

no im not alergic just lost! the garages ive spoke to have put me of. any good tips then?

i done that already, the fault is inside the gear box. its not releasing the cog.

how about replacing the missing parts - and then see if the problem has gone away ?

if you ask a garage to do it they'll charge your £90 to fit a fivers worth of parts

ya didn't say that did ya first off did ya

there's a few boxes on ebay at the moment - if you've replaced the springs and balls correctly and you still can't select gears then the only option is to drop the box and open it up

could be selector fork, syncro springs, shafts, bearings - however they are very easy to rebuild

what happens when you try selecting 3/4th ?
