As a self-confessed novice when it comes to transmission re-building... infact... transmission internals in general... I'm after a bit of advice,

what companies do people use? What sort of prices do people expect to pay and what should I look out for?

I'm after a remanufactured diff for the front of my disco 300tdi with abs as I had to do an axle swap and plan to rebuild the front axle (when thats done i'll be re-building the rear axle with lockers etc)

Does this look like a good buy? Is it expensive?

Is the seller reputable?

eBay Clicky

Also I'd be inclined to replace things with better/heavier duty items but looking at the Ashcroft website things look like they can get very very expensive, so for example, is it worth chucking some HD half shafts with a couple of other bits or is it a case of if I do put HD half shafts in then I should chuck HD everything in?

If thats the case I may as well just rebuild it with standard parts, which seems a bit pointless to me because I'm gonna be p****d if I go playing and something in a freshly build axle goes pop because I skimped out on the build

P.S. i don't want the axle to be worth more than the car

talk to me like an idiot, draw me pictures do what you can to help cos I'm on a steep learning curve here!

I think I have me a knackered diff on my mota cos the rest of the transmission seems ok. How can you tell if it is the diff, is there any visual signs to look for..?
