re hdc light

Hi can anybody point me in the right direction please, i,ve just taken in px a landrover freelander and its been fine up untill now, it drives superb untill you select reverse as soon as reverse is selected the hdc! warning light comes on and stays on even when taken out of reverse and others gears selected, it still drives and stops as it should, just the warning light comes on and only if reverse is selected, you can drive the car for miles with no probs so long as you dont have to go into reverse, i,m new to this system so have no idea what it does and where to look for the fault. Correction to what i wrote earlier the ligh does come on about a mile into being used as well as when selecting reverse????????????

switch is yellow button just in front of gearstick, most commonly failing connections are the ones on the back of the switch itself, take the surround off then lift the gaiter, or pop the switch out.

if you do a search for rave cd, you'll find how to download a full set of manuals, including instructions as to how to get the HDC switch out.

Is it an earlier one with the switch on a collar round the gearlever?
The first place I would look is at the wire coming from the gearlever (underneath) The commonest problem with that is that is breaks with the constant movement of the lever(and HDC doesn't work at all)
I wonder if in your case if it is shorting out as the lever moves onto the reverse position.

Thanks for the reply i,m going to have a look if its not the wires at the switch were does it go to is there a plug for the hdc on the gearbox?

Happy to stand corrected DaveC. For mine she is an auto, and I wasn't thinking about where the switch is on the manual. All the manual gearbox version had the switch on the gear stick.
