HI all,

I have a 1.8 petrol K series FL and was just wondering if anyone has compiled a list of work one would have to do to bring these up to a decent standard of ruggedness and reliability?

I think the FL was a great concept (we're good at great concepts in Britain) and nice looking motor, only let down by poor quality control and crap Chinese parts. If you could replace all the suspect bits, you'd have a pretty decent car.

Anyone done this and if so, what was the total cost?

Far be it from me to be supporting the 'Land of the Rising Sun' but I've had no problems with any of the Japanese bits.

What all bits are they anyway?

For sure the starter.
Alternator?
Mirror motors?

What else Japanese is there?

Are there any Chinese bits?

Singvogel.

Those of us with auto's have a large piece of Japanese engineering in the shape of the Jatco gearbox.

Back in the dim and distant past the company where I did my apprenticeship used to make lights and other bits & bobs for Rover as it was then. Anyhoo, I was amused when I first looked in the boot of of the Freelander and spotted the light with the old Austin Rover symbol on it, which is just like the one of the ones that company used to make 20 years ago!

Don't know where they are made now…

China…?

Silly me - - how I could I forget the fantastic Nissan/Mitsubishi auto-box - I have one in mine!

There are a few 'Nippondenso' Toyota electrical bits and bobs lurking around under the bonnet too when I come to think of it.

Still nothing actually Chinese yet?
