Well I've just started to strip and restore (with a few tweaks) my late dads series three 88' I'll add photo's as I go and will probably be posing questions on various bits as well! :)

I was going to take a per-picture but while I wandered down to get the camera from the house my mate attacked her!

No no welding required, I've got a new galvanised chassis from Richards to transfer everything to, I'll be repairing the panels and rubbing them down for a respray before they go back on I just need to figure out what to do with the drivetrain...

I don't want to cut or weld the new chassis for obvious reasons but intend to put in a 3.5v8, lots of conflicting opinions on drive and gearboxes, I will use it for green laning and road driving, I don't know whether to have the series 3 box reconditioned while I have it in bits and stick the v8 on that or go for a later lt77 or similar box with an Ashcroft conversion to run the series transfer box.... I don't really want to be blowing gearboxes!

Hopefully the pictures will be the right way up when I figure out how to work this photobucket thing!

its your right foot that will cause gearbox issues not the engine :) ive run several series with v8's over the years and never an issue, currently running a tdi which should be even worse....

cheers steve

Well havnt been on for a while as been busy in the garage...pics to follow over the weekend hopefully... Now a bare chassis ish but being built back up slowly...

Need to decide on wheels, anyone fitted the "challenge" steel wheels from 4x4 tyres with 235/85r16's to a series.... Spoke to the guys up there who were v helpfull but said they would stick out of the arches by about 1' I like the look but would that give me issues with wheels hitting arches etc? ..... Opinions on a postcard!?

These ones?

7 x 16" Black Challenger Wheel

The offset is 25mm and they're pretty standard 7 inch, I'm surprised they think they'll stick out. I've got the same size with similar offset and they're not as wide as the bumper or rear crossmember (it's not got the body on yet) though not far off.

That's the ones! cheers, Rattlegun I did wonder.... I'm in the same boat as I've got no body on at the mo either....that's the other job for the weekend test fit everything together again before it goes for paint....

Not mastered this whole posting pics! praps it would be easier on computer rather than phone!
