I live off road up a lane that is designated as a footpath. If vehicles are
banned from footpaths then neither I, nor my neighbours will be able to get
to our properties. In terms of damage, our unmade lane takes cars and
lorries up to 30 tonnes and only suffers a few ruts which we fill in with a
bit of whatever comes to hand -rubble, old sinks, mother-in-laws etc etc.

Check you deeds you should have a right of access, if you haven't you
are probably breaking the law already... Whether that access means by
powered vehicle or foot only will probably keep they lawyers very
happy. I'd go off an quietly check what access rights you have and
possibly preempt any thing in the future, partly for your own
convience and also to protect the resale value.

This is the sort of situation which enrages the urban ramblerdroid.

"Their" footpath runs on some private right of way, And so they get all
hot and bothered when any vehicle goes past, screaming about how "it's
not allowed!"

Hopefully, any laws they get will not affect those private rights, and
maybe the landowners involved with some routes will get together with a
local club, and there will still be organised, safe, light-footed, trips
along the green lanes of England.

But, knowing some of the dodgy legal drafting on other attempts to buy
votes, anything could happen. Maybe some people living on green lanes
will sell their services as passengers, spending the soft summer days
being ferried back and forth, giving Land Rover drivers the necessary
reason to travel the lane.

I've got an ex mother-in-law, Les Dawson edition. Could be used
for building motorways, leading peasant revolts etc.
