Another good alarm is wire the FIP to a horn.when the ignition light goes on a horn will sound. Put it on a hidden switch.
Fit a horn inside & out so they can’t sit in the motor.

Phil, that's a very good idea. Two loud horns to scare the do-da's out of them...

There's a company that fit trackers posting their recoverys on you tube. I've watched a few, mostly diggers (!) but by far the most common cars are RangeRover. Most times the thieves have taken the interior out and got the OEM tracker but not found the second one. The trackers have GPS, SIM and VHF and its interesting that the thieves often hide the cars under thick roofs to block the GPS so they use the SIM/cell signal to get a rough fix then look for the VHF. My tracker is a GPS / SIM so if its GPS is blocked it can't report its location. In one video (A Mustang) the thieves have fitted a steering lock, the tracking company call out a locksmith - he picks the lock in under a minute, even the tracking guy is amazed. If that's anything to go by the steering locks' vulnerabilitiy is the lock. Locksmith has East European accent, wonder where he got trained? Many are relay / range exstender thefts. Here's an example:

Evening lads, I need to get a pedal lock sorted for my new landy does anyone have a categorical answer which is the best to go for? The main contenders seem to be the ardcase and x-eng models? Is there any others equally good? Or one which surpasses the rest please?

They are pretty similar. Folk advocate the type that folds flat beneath your feet after use. I have the bulky yellow one and sometimes drive with it behind my ankles, which I know is stupid. So if I were fitting another it would be the fold down or expect to have to Chuck it in the back every time it’s removed.

Thanks, I don't mind lobbing it in the back particularly, I've got air con so the fold flat one is a bit of a no go I suppose. Thinking along the lines of an ardcase box and then a clutch pin too to try stop it being driven away on the stubs.

I appreciate this information isn't so readily available for any scroats that might view this page but can anyone point me in the direction of a thread on how to install a battery kill switch?

Also if anyone has a disklock going spare they want rid of let me know

Most of this stuff can be defeated in moments. Multiple things can delay the would be thief especially an opportunist. Trackers are the way to got.

Appreciate that, any suggestions other than skytag? looking into getting a cheaper one with a long battery life so it doesn't need to be wired and so can be better hidden.

How much of a concern are the signal blockers thiefs put in the cigarette lighter? should I look to install a relay switch to cut power to this also?

Any suggestions on aftermarket alarms?

Reading through some of this thread makes me glad I can't afford a decent nickable vehicle, it must be nothing but worry. When I bought my first new motorbike several years ago, I had a good alarm and immobiliser fitted by the dealer and carried a hefty chain and lock around for securing it to lamposts etc. But it was a massive faff. Eventually I stopped using the chain and I would like to disable the alarm, it's a battery killer. I'm fairly sure all the folk contributing to this thread will abandon many of these security devices eventually because having to put them on and take them off takes away a lot of the pleasure of owning and using your car.

The additional security may save yer having to walk home. Its not just the value of the vehicle. Some have spent many hours repairing theirs heaps to keep them on the road. Most of the time/effort won't be reflected in the insurance pay out.

Not to mention sentimental value

So what do think about using the Apple airtags as a cheap and cheerful tracker? in additional to what ever you have
for 29 pounds almost a no brainer? especially if they are carrying their iPhones on the job ; )

Could work, I use a £12 tracker with a PAYG sim. The main things to look out for are battery life/drain as its on 24/7 and concealing it. It needs good satellite signal and good cellnet signal but not to be visible.. The PAYG cost is one text per month, about £10 per year on my set up. App is on Android and locates to about 2m.

Well can always power off a solar set up if you're that way inclined with winches and secondary batteries stuff

I can only speak for the green hardcase-a d a friend has the orange hardercase...

I havent had a break in or attempted theft. But I also dont leave it parked on the road. If I leave it for a few hours while I go for an extended walk down fields and woods.... the hardcase goes on.
