i think poison is worse than shooting, as you said they have nasty long death but with a gun click and game over, plus a guns alot more accurate than poison (depends who is shooting though)

Would have to be bad to miss at that range with a 12 bore :D

We got a load of rats around at the mo.. I found one in my workshop yeasterday.. I am now keeping a catapult n ammo in there.

Theres a hand held cross bow on amazon , think its like £13 friends got it, does a fair bit of damage to apples and fences duno about rats, the air rifles just used to bounce off of them

they will with a couple of shakes ,you dont see much as quick ,though my old man wasnt bad with a fork ,used to be a popular event

You haven't seem the size of some of them on our yard. Big as the cats, who wont take them on. A couple of the terriers will go for the smaller ones but leave the really big ones alone. One of them went for my retriever when he cornered it, he ran off squealing :D

ive seen really fat ones fall out of combines in spring when getting them ready ,so fat they could hardly run ,the most i saw was when we got chickens

Here in Merka many herald the Colt revolver or the Winchester lever action as the gun that the won American west (with all our expansionist tendencies and wotnot) but it is in fact the good old smooth bore shotty that did the most work. Get one.

I saw R Lee Ermery's series on weapons and how they evolved in the American west, fascinating stuff.

I should get me one ;)

i were stuck on yur post for ages...looking and waiting for em to fall out.ha ha

right back to subject.i have a 2.2 super 10 with silencer on.does the trick.also got a gas powered smith and wesern 1.77 which fires 10.

Another vote for a Jack Russell - they make short work of rats.

Otherwise, a .22 air rifle - humane, economical and less likely to wreck the gaff than a shotty.

NO! Seriously.....DON'T.

Rats will take on a ferret and they're not far from an equal match

I once heard ferrets will easy sort a rat out, but I ain't gonna chance it..

We kept getting rats tunnelling into our stone built chicken house, so I put all the ferret **** n sawdust down the holes, thinking it would put the rats off, but it didn't..

We did a good trick once using my old genny and a shotgun. We attached a pipe from the exhaust on the genny into a rat hole and fired it up.. a couple of rats soon popped up out another hole. I can confirm rats do not like the shotgun :D

I used to shoot rats with air rifles. Good laugh and providing a good service to farmers. Started with lamps but the rats are bloody clever things! They got used to seeing the lamp and done a runner! So I bought night vision!!! :D they didn't know what hit them haha!!! What's your biggest rat???? Mines just over 20 inches from head to tail! And I right fatty! It took 5 pellets in its head to stop him lol normally 1 to the head and it's game over lol
