Range rover

Hi folks
Can I please have some advise I was out today and on turning left on the road there is a rumbling noise from front wheel and also my range rover is lying to one side the previous owner has converted to springs all round

Check the road spring for the lean and check c/v joint for the rumble

Could also be knackered wheel bearing.

Thanks guys is it possible that this would cause the front wheel to lock up whilst driving and to free off when reversed then do it again after 5 min drive

Thats fecked.....cv most likely or a fecked diff.

Check operarion of the viscous unit too....could be locked up!

It can happen, they are complex cars that most (previous) owners don't understand.

They require a lot of maintenance to keep in top shape, most neglect this and then move on.

They are a hobbyists car, not a daily conveyance!

Also check your brake pads, I had a Classic which the rears wore down so much that they passed between disc and calliper to wedge themselves solid and lock up the rear wheel!

We have all been there mate, at some point a lemon has donned our driveways!

Been out in it for a 30 minute drive no front lock up still rumble noise from front wheel that locked up now I think it's taken the mick so confused where to go now

Put your location in yor profile, some one may be local to you to take a look, or even we may be able to reccomend a decent garage.

First thing is to check the brake pads, then jack up the wheel in question, gearbox in neutral, hand brake on (or is it off - can never remember....someone will correct me) and then try turning the wheel, it should be stiff, but not solid....solid indicates the central Viscous Coupling is locked up and this can lead to knackering the diffs!

Next if that is OK (stiff), then jack up both front wheels and spin the wheel in question....feel/listen for roughness....then grab the wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock and try rocking it...any movement could be wheel bearings....do the same at 3 and 9 o'clock and rock the wheel.

if that seems fine, spin the wheel again and the opposite wheel should be turning in the opposite direction...if it isn't, front diff could be duff.....if that is OK, then it is time to strip the front driveshaft and CV joint out and look at its condition.

Not a hard job, but time consuming.
