Range Rover wont start. Imobiliser???

I have a 95 Ranger rover v8 which was running fine until i steam cleaned the engine the other day. I had it running while i was cleaning it but it started to spluter and then it stalled. When i went to start it again nothing happened. When i turn the key fully on the oil light and the battery light comes on but nothing else and when i turn the key fully on then fully off there is a buzzing comes from the engine (sounds like it might be the fuel pump or something but im not sure)

The battery is fully charged so its not that. I think it may be the imobiliser but I have no idea how to even check that?

get the ecu fault read have you checked the ecu was still dry are the earths ok

I had the same sort of hassle a few months ago. There's a leak coming in from somewhere at the bottom of the windscreen which apparently had been happening before I got the motor. Anyway, after a particularly heavy rain storm (is there ever any other kind in Scotland) I came out to start the car and got nothing.

The usual lights were still coming up on the dash (battery, TC, ABS) and the little immobiliser light kept coming on when I tried to turn the key.

End result, was a jumper cable from the starter motor, with an earth to the battery. Just means it's now a push button start.

Update.

I was having a poke about in the engine bay today and i wondered if there was any current going through the starter motor, so i turned on the ignition switch and put my ampmeter on the spade of the starter motor. As i did this i accidentally shorted out the starter with the bolt next to the spade (im assuming the positive) as i did this the engine sprung into life. I was thinking of just wiring up a push button to go onto the dash so i could short out these wires without opening the bonnet.

This sounds alot like the problem BKPlants had so i am hoping this is a comman problem because i have no idea what thickness of wire to use??? Is there a high voltage going to go through this pushbutton???

The other day i tried putin sun 2.5mm wire to the starer and touching them together to see if anything melted haha. All went ok and i now hav a push button start and the rangey is running like a charm (for now). I feel a little silly that i had to post the problem for such a simple problem but my mind went blank trying to find the problem. Thanks to all who helped.
