Range rover vogue L322 2004 with pioneer avic f30bt ?
Hi I would like to hear from anyone who has had a Pioneer AVIC-F30BT system installed in their Range ROver VOgue L322 V8 2002,3,4.

Desparate to change this outdated stereo/sat nav.
I have spoken to Finsbury Car AUdio, who say its possible depending on whether my car has a DSP fitted ????? THanks

Hi mate, anything in life is possible but changing the audio/sat nav system in a range rover is a lot more complicated than you think. The system does not just control audio/navigation it provides all the data for the on board computer e.g. MPG info, range etc.... also date/time settings are controlled by the sat nav. Although the factory sat nav can look a bit dated your best bet and easiest route is to upgrade to the later MK4 sat nav unit, it has a much better user interface than the stock MK3 which i presume you have. Also the sound system that you have in your car with it being a vogue is far superior to most aftermarket systems (unless you do a complete rip out including speakers and wiring etc...) the audio system in a range rover vogue is based on a harman kardon DSP audio system and has around 300-500 watts - the subwoofer on this system a little small for the size of the car but it is differently a much better system than almost all other cars of its age. With 12 individual speakers in the car replacing this amount of kit would cost a small fortune, and the reason that they ask if you have a DSP amp is because only the range rover/bmw factory system can control the DSP amp because it runs on the cars IBUS network (communication network for all the infotainment systems) i can tell you that because you have a vogue you WILL have the DSP amp only the basic HSE models did not come with the DSP audio system as standard. Changing major components in these cars e.g. audio/navigation systems is not an easy task as everything realise on everything else to work correctly.

If you need any more info about the cars audio/navigation systems then let me know

Thanks Matt for your help. I will look at the MK4 sat nav unit. I presume I can swap this myself ? Kind regards Jasson

Hi Again, I think i will just update the DVD Nav to the "MK4 DVD SAT NAV E46 RANGEROVER ROVER" as shown on ebay. Its about £350 - Would you recommend this approach ? Dont really want to spend £3000 on a pioneer system...

Yes the MK4 is a straight swap for your existing system if you get one from a BMW it will have the BMW firmware on but you can upgrade it using my custom Range Rover firmware from my website www.myrangerover.co.uk there is also a guide in the blog archive for this upgrade with instructions on how to replace the unit correctly.

just to resurrect this thread a little. i have a 2002 vogue and have read about upgrading to the 'mk4 nav' but i'm a little uninformed as to what bits are 'changed out'. am i correct in thinking i would need a pair of units, ie the old cd rom player in boot comes out, and the new mk4 dvd rom drive just plugs in, and the dash unit (cassette/screen/surround) comes out and a mk4 screen unit goes in, plug and play? or do i need umpteen other bits. if its a pair of units do they just plug in and away you go, on the same day? from my own experience, the theory is a lot different to the actual job. and with it in, (mk4) i can use complete postcodes? and is it touchscreen? -finally my radio and cd changer is still working?
PS i have a parrot bluetooth working for my iphone podcast/music. so cassette is retired. im seeing around £300 secondhand for a screen unit and a couple more for the dvd rom. (which i guess is just an old pc dvd drive, like i have in an old desktop in the garage! -just without the tin and plug! ) D'OH! thanks in advance, john

Mk4 unit is plug and play so just remove old mk3 and replace.

The mk4 has better mapping, a moving map and postcode search.

No touch screen, as this was introduced in 2005/6 and runs on the MOST fibre based data system and the 2002-2005 vehicles use the CAN twisted pair based system and is not a straight forward swap as many other systems on the L322 rely on the CANbus system.

The DVD drive is more clever than just a drive unit, it is the entire GPS navigation computer too, all the screen is on the dash is just a screen....all the clever stuff is done in the boot!

Radio and cd will still function with the mk4 unit!

hmm, ok, so really i only need the mk4 DVD boot mounted unit. and just switch it over! that's a lot better job than i thought i was gonna have to do.

i have seen on the 'bay of life' the latest maps for the mk4 too. so i just get one of those too.
thanks for the info.
