Hi Guys, just joined up and urgently require some direction regarding special tool 303-1145 Camshaft (HPFP) sprocket holding tool.
I purchased a non runner 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 last September at a good price! Originally, I was informed that the Turbo was the issue however, on getting the Sport transported to my location it was discovered that not only the Turbo was at fault but the main stay of the crank, non start condition was due to a coolant hose leak, engineoverheating, head gasket failure.
The Sport cooling system was flooded with fuel and several components including the Turbo had enjoyed its last days!
I have worked tirelessly in my spare time in getting this non running Sport back to its former glory which only last week I did! New Head Gaskets, Turbo, HPFP, Alternator, Water Pump, Oil Pump, Injectors, all belts changed and job done! She fired up and sounds great!
Now the bad news after so much hard work! I have a trail of engine oil gently making its way down the Turbo heat shield which after further investigation appears to be at the rear Camshaft Seal.
I do not want to take this vehicle apart any longer.
I am making every attempt to obtain special tool 303-1145 Camshaft holding tool to-minimise any further work.
The problem I have is, Bosch have the tool listed for £198.00 and I have seen it on a German website for 348 euros!
I can not purchase from Bosch as I am not VAT registered and the 348 euros seems excessive especially as the item is aftermarket.
Another independent company stated that they could obtain the tool on my behalf but marked the price up by £200!!! Ridiculous!
I really could do with some help! One Landrover Independent Garage has quoted me £500 to do the job! Just appears to be excessive as if I had the tool I could readily carry out the repair myself.
This engine has virtually been rebuilt by myself from the block up with the body on! I just don’t want to give up after all the hard work!
If anyone has any ideas where I can obtain this tool, please can you get in touch?! Any help whatsoever is appreciated!

If you google the part number 303-1145 you’ll see it’s available from Amazon. Approx 80 dollars

Cheers fella! I have googled it but only seen it on JLR Specialist tool suppliers Bosch etc. You would happen to have a link would you fella? Top man for the quick response! I’ve got to get this sorted ASAP! Cheers mate.

Regarding my past post regarding your reply. The tool you have mentioned is for the V8 not V6...
I have provided the image of what I am after.

Hi gstuart,

I have the tool you have mentioned, that is for the Cambelt Replacement.

I provided a image in earlier conversations of the Special Tool in question.

That said, many thanks for answering the post, always appreciated!

No worries , I’ll have a look though on the D3/D4 forum for u to see if there’s any cheaper versions

Like always Land Rover tools like to charge are outrageous

In the mean time have found this if it’s any use

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/tdv6-timing-belt-53674.html?highlight=Rear+camshaft+sprocket

Plus wondering if u put a thread on there someone may have one they can lend to u for now to save u some cash

Many thanks fella! When I get 5 I’ll have to take a peek! I can’t believe there are no reputable after market Tool companies manufacturing this item or something that will do the job.

All for the sake of a £3-4 Seal! Crazy!

There are some very good guys on the D3 forum who do belts etc all the time so maybe they know somewhere u can get them or pop over to u if local , really nice members there

Being an owner of a D3 I understand something are just stupidly priced

Had a look at the above link.

All that work has been completed, I have changed all belts etc and don’t want to start ripping it all apart.

The Special Tool is designed to lock the HPFP Sprocket and then the holding tool to whip the Bolt off.

Once the Sprocket is removed then the offending seal can be replaced and removed ready for the new install.

I originally purchased the Sport to scrap! It’s just too good to be palmed off therefore my persistence in getting it back to its former glory will remain resolute!

It’s all about obtaining the tool to avoid a strip down or engine out! £500 for this job (Which I was quoted) nuts!

I have read it’s a couple of hours work with the right Toolage? Who knows? As stated, I have already Change the HPFP belt and tensioner which once done is pretty much straight forward.

I did not remove the ECU loom etc as the above link that you provided, I managed to get to it over the top well illuminated with mirror in hand.

Very fiddly but kept costs down to the minimum!

Hi

I’m wondering ref tools because I watched my D3 having all its belt changed and they didn’t remove the starter but locked the crank then cams

This is the guy on the D3 who is a wizard with these engines , who is also very helpful

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/member-flack.html

They done front and rear belts, water pump , oil pump cover , in around 4 x hours flat

Rear fuel pump belt took around 45 x mins to change

There is big issues with the oil pump covers from 2007 onwards , assume ur already aware ref the weak casings , I had mine changed at the same time

U should find the info on the D3 forum, sorry I can’t help more as I’ve never done the belts myself so don’t know what all the tools are

Plse let us know how u get on

You have been very helpful! Many thanks!

I have already Change the Oil Pump! Every peripheral component to be honest!

Thought while the Engine was spread about the Garage best replace all to make every attempt to avoid revisiting the known faults!

I have posted on the D3 forum that you provided, many thanks for that.

I do know of Disco Mikey, maybe he will be able to direct me?

You have been a true gentleman! Thank you!

Ur very welcome , glad it helped in a small way , to at least point u in the right direction

Indeed disco mikey is also very knowledgeable with these vehicles

I’ll keep an eye out on the D3 forum and indeed ur get sound advice there

Good call ref the oil pump cover , seeing you’ve gone to all that u don’t want any issues

Surprising many garages won’t replace the rear belt as they think it’s body off nor replace the oil pump cover

Hope u get on ok

Where there’s a will there’s a way!

No skin left on my knuckles mind!!!

I’m nearly there! One way or the other I will have this Sport back on the Road!

Once again! Thanks for your input! Top Man!
