hi, I have a 1999 2.5 Range Rover sde automatic and creeps forward when taking foot of brake ideal in traffic but not on a down gradent with a wet surface you have to rely on the brakes [very dangerous and heart stopping to say the least] can anyone advise how to reduce the rev`

What is the idle speed? Should be 750rpm +/-50rpm
All auto's creep to some extent.
Oh and it's normal to introduce yourself in the correct section first.

Idle speed can only be changed by using diagnostics. Idle speed as said by Keith. Even at that speed creep is normal. Don't take your foot off the brake until you need to move off. Or take note of handbook instructions when waiting at lights, by selecting neutral and setting hand brake. Not many do this though i would think.

hi,Datatek thank you for being so prompt on a reply to my question, my rev`s are running at 850rpm wich as i said are ideal with the creeping in trafic jam`s but not down hill gradent`s such as wet tracks without the engine and gearbox being used as a brake and should help with handling and control and not rely on the foot brake if i loose control on the foot brake and it over runs il have resort to plan B seat belts OFFand hand on door handle and jump and hope for the best

Idle revs are too high get them set to 750. Do you not have a handbrake? You are stressing the torque convertor and putting heat into the gearbox fluid without reason.

As above, get the idle revs adjusted with diagnostics and check the temperature sensors. Does the dash gauge show correct engine temperature?
I think you are over reacting, it aint going to run away, it's totaly normal to have to hold the car on the brakes or slip it into neutral.

When going down 'slippy wet tracks', put it into low range 1st or 2nd (depending how steep), take both feet off the pedals and you will have 'engine braking'. This is how you are meant to use it and feels good and safe. You can obviously still brake or accelerate if you need to
