Range Rover p38 subwoofer issue

I have used these Pyle bass drivers in several cars. Fairly sure the cones are polymer & rubber surrounds, so less susceptible to damp.

Any 4 ohm 165 mm speaker will do the job, as said polymer cones are better as they are damp proof.

So the power thing is all marketing poop like the 9 million mAh phone chargers?

Pretty much although some speakers do have a watt rating. You do need a speaker that offers good low frequency response. 50Hz or lower, but these days that applies to most speakers.

Hi Chris, I did that job last year. You can buy new suspension rings for the speakers. If it's the HK unit in the rear passenger side cubby then you are in for a treat Lovely job. You have to split the whole base reflex cabinet to get the job done. But it is doable. My thread (with pictures I think) is on this site somewhere.

Strips of toilet paper and puncture repair glue. Do two layers around the edge on each one. Mind you, they've pretty much had it those

You can buy the replacement rings on ebay. Did all my speakers as there were all shot. Doesn't take long and cheaper than replacement speakers.

I didn't even think about the power when I did my wife's car. Bass Face 600W! And they do seem a bit quiet. If the amp is set up to <100W I'm guessing that's where I went wrong. They're under driven. Schoolboy error.

Looks like the 120W Pyle ones with the yellow synthetic cones work well. I'll probably buy 4 of those and fix both cars at the same time. Pyle Drivers... I see what they did there!

You can buy new foam rings and glue them on its quite simple, easily done in an evening when there's nothing on tv. just clean the old foam off first

If you're concerned about how loud the sub will be, then the Watts rating does not help. It's the dB per Watt figure you want. No point in speakers >> 100-200W when the HK amps will max out around 50W Peak.

Also the "500-600W" labelled stuff out there will probably be 3-6dB less per Watt . . . . .which means less than half the volume, hence why bigger amps are needed !!

BTW Many years ago, I put 500W from a proper PA Amplifier through a supposedly rated car speaker, and the cone practically jumped out the frame !!

The foam surround suspension has disintegrated, the cones are fine. As suggested you can get repair kits to replace the damaged suspension. Just measure the diameter, and get some replacement foams.

I did it, can't remember if i had to split the enclosure but it was a simple job
