Range Rover P38 dse BeCM Issues?????????

On 15th October 2012 my Range Rover P38 DSE failed to start after momentarily switching off.It cranked over fine but failed to start. It was eventually taken to a main Land Rover Dealer Harwoods of Crawley. The vehicle was diagnosed with a BeCM fault, and it was discovered that windows, heating,air-con and radio failed to work. The unit was sent to BBA Reman for repair and returned , but still failed to work. The unit was again sent to Reman, and it was returned as working fine.It failed to correct the problems.Again it was returned to Reman, who exchanged it for another unit. That too failed to solve the problem.I was informed by Harwoods that their technician had even tried fitting another unit from a cutomers vehicle which was working, but even this item failed to correct my problems.
Upon it`s return the unit was then forwarded to Turner Automotive for investigation and was returned as repaired, but again this failed to correct the problems.
Harwoods have informed me that there is input into the unit, but no output.
Eventually after nearly four months, yes 4 months!!! Harwoods contacted Jaguar Land Rover Technical advice, who after speaking to a P38 expert (their words) was informed that JLR could obtain a new unit from the original suppliers, which would take a minimum of three months to be delivered,at a cost of £2079.00 fitted inc. VAT.
My question is,is there anyone out there who can resolve my issues??
JLR apparently stated that the equipment being used by these other companies was not sufficiently capable of carrying out the required tests.
Obviously after so many failures experienced, I now suspect the BeCM itself may be in fact OK! Is there anything else that could cause these problems??
Is it possible that something simple is being overlooked.
Surely in this day and age a car should not take this long to fix!!
Even if I take up the new unit, what guarentees are there that it should work. After so many failures with so called `fixed` units, from companies that rely on fixing BeCMs as part of their business I am at a loss to trust what I`m told.
Please help !!!!!

My opinion if I was given the choice of spending 2 grand on a maybe fix. I was spend the money on another landy and forget about the wallet rapist known as the p38. You could get a good disco for that. If the unit is fine each time, maybe the looms got a short somewhere or a failed connector?

Go in range rover ask for rick the prick he will fix it for you , its his field bcem's and fairly local too hove postage service avilible

Probably broken by them fiddling about :eek:
Keep an eye on us Dave seems we are local I'm eventually going to get a diagnostic reader be handy for us ;)

Hello.
Re BeCM faults.
My Range Rover 2.5 DHSE would not open using remote after being left for two weeks in garage but due to flooding was, unknowingly, stood in four inches of water but no water entered the vehicle. Opened car with key tried to start but message appeared "engine immobilised press remote or enter EKA code". Did all this plus several other tricks advised via internet without success. Called Green Flag who managed to get it started by disconnecting and reconnecting battery then turning ignition over whilst holding remote buttons. Warmed car up then drove it home. Turned off ignition then tried to start it again without success but this time slightly different message i.e. engine immobilised press remote. Car removed to local garage and tested by Land Rover Specialists who suggested fault is with BECM. Went to take the BeCM out and in doing so inadvertently knocked the driver’s front seat switch and hey presto the central locking unlocked, ignition sprang into life and the car started! This seems to repeat itself, i.e. switch ignition off then to get it to work again have to touch the seat switch and all’s well. On a few occasions in the past if I put my hand under the driver’s seat I have had the air bag indicator come on and by putting my hand under again and touching a wire, a yellow one I think, the warning light goes out. I presume this suggests the BeCM is OK and possibly a poor connection is the fault? Any guidance anyone can offer would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you and best wishes.
Dave
