Hi all

Whilst offroading at the weekend we lost all drive to the front wheels, this weekend's job is to hopefully attempt to fix it.

The front propshaft appears to be turning but there is no drive to the front wheels so we had to get towed out and left it there.

What would be the easiest way to check things in the correct order and diagnose the fault.

Im assuming it could be any of these problems, im hoping its nothing to do with the Auto box or the centre diff.

Front Diff Broken
Halfshafts Broken
CV Joint Broken

Can anyone help

i would assume to check the half shafts you could jack it and turn a wheel. the other should turn(shouldn't it) if they do then diff?

a good visual may be the first step!

If i jack the front of the vehicle up and rotate the wheels shouldnt the opposite wheel rotate the opposite way.

Or if i hold one wheel and rotate the other shouldnt that spin the dff if i disconnect the front prop?

I am unsure as to what exactly to check in order to identify the parts that broken without stripping it all down.

best thing to do is get it up and then post what happens, that way some one with a better knowledge can comment and tell you how to proceed.

i suspect tho, that you will find the diff has gone. you could take the plate off and have a look inside the diff. if it hasnt then you might as well replace the oil in there anyway while your messing with it all!

Nice one,

After draining the diff oil and poking the magic finger in there lots of loose chunks were found, so with the help of the manual we managed to get the front diff out.

Now on the hunt for a 10 spline diff.

This were some of the big bits found at the bottom of the diff

well if they came outa the diff then obviously it dunt need em!

ooo dont forget removing drive to the front axle will improve fuel consumption!
