Hi,
I have just bought a 1999 SE rangerover 4ltr LPG converted.

I am wanting to know what sought of LPG consumption should I be getting. As This weekend I drove to cardif and back and doesnt seem like I got a good return.
I have a 90/95 liter LPG tank- I put £50 of LPG in which was full (LPG is 61p where I live) and I got 290 miles out of it. Now is this a normal range for the price as I didnt think it was a good return for my money.
Let me know what you think and if you think there is something wrong with it please let me know what.

Cheers.

Hi Craig

It's not bad - around 16.1 mpg. Assuming unleaded costs around £1.12, that's a cost-based equivalent 0f 29.6mpg - not bad for a very heavy vehicle with a 4ltr engine!

My 4.6 has been getting around 19mpg consistently since we had it converted in November.

go get the lpg serviced and set up, you will get a slightly better return.

now. i hope you are not expecting more mpg on lpg???

you get less mpg (around 15%) but at around half the price it works out cheaper per mile!!

a lot of folk get confused with the maths of the subject!!

you need to search out the cheapest lpg in your area and that will save you even more.

yesterday i did 162 miles to 28 quid!!! so its the equivalent of 320+ miles to 60 quid as you put in yours, i pay 56p per litre!!!

go to a site called get lpg and petrol prices . com

you will then find your cheapest outlets!

Having read peoples posts on here im a little worried - my tank is 90L and out of a full tank I get 180 miles around town and 200 on a long journey. You all seem to be getting alot more than me - mines a singlepoint so maybe thats got something to do with it or maybe it just needs a good service.

You might have a 90lt tank but you wont get 90lt in it I think it will be around the 70 75 litre mark as they leave space for air to guard against expansion, plus I dont think the singlepoint systems are as good as the sequential - multi point

On a clear run i can get 250 miles form my 1995 4.6 on single point with a 95 litre tank, yes, average fill up is about 70 litres.
Around town and to and from work, its about 230.

Yep thats about it. When I had mine converted I saved 35p a litre, but now 60p a litre.
Remember it was a £50k machine and petrol only 45p-55p. If you can afford 50k then i dont think you are going to worry about filling up. Dont expect to run round in luxury for the price of a Festa (its not that far off looking at second hand prices).
Clean filters, oil and regular check up will keep it running at the optimum of 15/gallon of gas. Dont expect any more . 4x4 's are now seen as a way of life after the winter we've just had plus no choking fumes out the back with the clean stuff. Mines done 70k on the gas. Heads off this week and the bores are as new (120k miles) so plenty of life yet in the old dog !!

i get around 180 ish round town and about 250 ish on a run for a tank.. dont rely on the gauge they are notoriously inaccurate, i reset the mileage each time. once the light starts flashing on the lpg gauge i can get anything from 50-100 miles ?

Mine doesn't have a gauge. I just reset the trip like you say. It's surprising how it can vary according to use. Steady driving with no trailer is definitely best - but that doesn't get the caravan to the south of France does it. That said LPG is cheaper and more readily available over there.

i would love to get 14.7 mpg out of my 4.6,i manage about 12mpg.i got fed up refueling every 150 miles(approx) so i am in the process of fitting two tanks with a capacity of 135llitres gross, at least i should stay away from the pump a little longer

I'm just putting LPG in mine now. Just got the fuel pipes to connect up and position the filler.

I intend to do a HOW TO of it for the site once I've finished.

I've got a spare wheel tank at the moment, but I think if you were to cut the spare wheel well away, and weld in some box section, you could hang two cylindrical tanks in the same space to get a very good range.

I've seen pictures of it on't web somewhere.

Tanks come up on eBay quite often so it wouldn't have to cost the earth.

tanks av to be less than 10yrs old to get a cert.beware what you buy.

I get about 190-200 miles out of my 90 litre tank (approx 72 l). 2000 4.6 THOR

I get around 13 mpg.
