Hi , New to the site but owned a 2000 4.0 HSE for a few months.I had air suspension problems were it would take ages to raise up then went into hard fault and dropped on its bump stops which was not good,This was enough for me as i lost faith in the suspension and would not like to be stranded like that again.
Decided to do a coil conversion which was done and it is like a weight lifted. The car drives great and sits at normal driving height. If anything i would say it takes sharp corners better and is a better ride. I have not been off road yet but 90% of the time i am road driving so not to worried.
The conversion cost £350 and was great quality and a local mechanic fitted it for me for £150 which took about 4 hours give or take.
I would do this to my next range rover with no second thoughts.
I know this is not for everyone but if you are like me and not prepaired to keep throwing money at the air system go for coils.
Would be interested to hear if anyone else has done this and there thoughts.

350 quid for the kit and 150 quid to fit it, for that amount of money you could have replaced just about all the servicable items on the air suspension and kept the smooth ride without going all old fashioned.tut tut, but thats just me. if your happy thats the main thing a.

i know, but when it was in the garage no fault showed up so it was going to be hit and miss what to change, I was told it may be sensors or a leaking air bag or the compressor, and i could not cope with another long ride on bump stops.

I wanted to comment on this post and get all sarcastic and stuff and go on about spending a shed load of money on repairing something that in reality was at most about £250 to sort, completely ruining your car, by making it non standard, more than likely invalidating your insurance, but I wont. I am better than that now. Good luck to you, hope you are enjoying it and next time you have a problem, just ask here and get some good advice. Welcome.

i have a 2.5 dse on coils which was like it when i bought

have also got a 4,6 on air which is in bits ready for a conversion at the moment
Once i have it together then i will compare the 2>

th ecoiled P38 rides better than the 3 other discos in the in laws family, 2 disco 1 and 1 disco 2 ( which hS an air leak) bhut not sur ei would pay 500 quid to change it over
guess the proof is in the driving

maybee, but the thought of another journey on bump stops made my mind up. I live in the sticks and although the warning said 35mph max i could not go over 10mph without nearly leaving the road and other road users were passing me with funny looks which was annoying with a 4.0 v8 under the bonnet.

An EAS kicker is not expensive and will almost always get you out of trouble. If it's well maintained and leak free, the air suspension is great, the ability to raise and lower the height is very handy too.

I agree with you. You spend 500 but you won't have to spend any more money on the suspention. The only thing you have to worry now is the shocks. I have one converted and it work great off road.

yer but the same applies to air, when i first bought mine i fitted four new air springs and since havnt had a single issue with the air in 7 years. if you get leaks your bound to get problems, simple maintenance me thinks.;)
