Same happened on my LDV. Turned out to be the clutch release fork - plunger had gone straight through it. The replacement had a couple of strengthening bars welded across the top.
I was told that the LR fork is the same as the LDV one (???) and was weak. Not sure whether true or not but could well be your problem.

Yep the fork arm wearing through is a common fault on discos as well. So that could be your problem. You should be able to seperate the gearbox from the engine and slide the box back far enough to be able to remove the fork without having to drop the box.
