If i listen to a cassette or my ipod through the stereo in my disco i get interference coming through, it gets higher in pitch as the engine revs increase, can anyone tell me how to suppress it?

Hi,

The noise is from the alternator, normally due to a imbalance in voltage

Firstly i'd suggest trying a choke filter on the 12V main supply to the stereo

(e.g. A ferrite clamp type: 10mm Ferrite CLAMP Choke Filter to Reduce RFI/EMI/TVI on eBay (end time 11-Apr-10 11:59:01 BST))

Bad earths can also lead to some noise, though normally only when you start adding seperate amps, etc.

Are you using a 'tape adapter' for the IPod? If so buy yourself one of the FM transmitter types, the good quality ones are supurb for noise cancellation

Whats a cassette? You still listening to Edith Piaff on 8 track!?

It could also be a speaker problem...try and put a new earth on the speakers, the original was possibly a 'common earth', shared with the battery, that was ok for factory fitted radio but not for new stuff. You will need a seperate earth. If this doesnt work then get a filter as Mike says...

cheers for that, they're not the original speakers, but there are no extra amps, will have to look at the ferrite thing later, can't get on ebay due to works computer system, thanks again
