Hi , I recently had a problem with my heater matrix leaking, probably ended up only the bottom seal was dodgy , anyway i ended up chopping the ally pipes and putting a section of rubber hose on them clamped with jubilee clips, the first attempt had the hoses leaking as if not tightened up enough , so i re-did them and added a bit thread tape on the pipes for added grip, i have been running around now for a couple of weeks and there is no leaks and the heater works very well , as i have had it on all the time , if i put it on cold would it add any pressure onto my joints hence the title if i put some rad weld in would it help stop any leaks from the joints, want to know before i box it back up ie centre consol and brackets for the dash and fuse box lid back on fit carpets back properly etc and find when i dont have the heater on its going to force out of the joints . and how long does it take for rad weld to do its stuff , cos i will also have to put some new anti freeze in soon.

Rad weld is magic potion.

If you have it all stripped why not do the job right?

How come is there always time to do botch-ups several times over, when there wasn't time to do it right in the first place?

i did mine without removing dash but i thought about using hose in between but if i did i would have tried sillicone hose as it will go at some point with rubber hose and with about 8psi in there it could be abit hot on the leg

i used some radweld (different make tho) to stop my thermostat housing on my ford pouring out.

man in shop said they do 2 types, one just for rads, and one that stops leaks anywhere even head gaskets n water pumps etc.

its always worked great for me

right so if that's true how come when ya poach an egg underwater not in contact with air it still goes hard ????? and when you boil it underwater in its shell not in contact with the air it goes hard ?????

the egg trick does work but it's a get you out the **** get you home trick , when home you should backflush to remove the egg and do a proper repair !

i just couldnt get the pipes back in the matrix and clip them up . i didnt take the bracket off from right under the bulkhead maybe if i had i might of got a bit more play on the ally pipes thats why is used radiator hose and joined them even that wasn,t plain sailing .

I go with Charlesy, you've taken the trouble to strip down the dash put in a replacement matrix. As the point of radweld is to seal holes it will eventually cause unwelcome blockages elsewhere, most likely will be the radiator core and that breeds untold devastation once the ambient air temperature rises.
