Whilst having a root around in the documentation supplied with my 1999 P38a auto diesel, I discovered a leaflet for an accessory that I have been aware of but not identified , namely a Racor Turbofilter.

Has anyone had any experience with them, as the bumpf claims that they extract water etc from fuel and need purging from time to time, and as an added extra (not fitted to my RR) you can have a warning LED or buzzer.

Obviously the filter in the unit will need changing at about the same frequency as the Landrover fuel filter, but do I need to worry about purging the unit in between. My unit has a heater element as well so I suppose will help keep the fuel flowing in the winter months.

My company fit them as standard for all countries that we ship equipment to, when there is any risk of bad fuel quality.
With the introduction of things like common rail engines they are even more important.
I will be fitting one to my td5 defender before going to africa, the models with "water in fuel" warnings or heaters cost lots more, there are many aftermarket models for much better value.

As the unit is already there and has fuel heating option, its more a matter of service requirememnts, so have you any tips on frequency of draining of unit?

being a marine engineer we come across these regularly they are expensive gut there simply is not an alternative especially to the heated models which remove all water from the fuel, filter is very easy to change no rebleeding etc. they come in various micron sizes for the filter my advice go for a 5 micron takes out everything.

engineer:) :)
