Land Rover Defender 110 County Station Wagon (from factory, not conversion), 300TDi 2.5L engine, 5-door, metallic green (Epsom?) R registered (1997) not subject to the LEZ according to TFL so ideal for Londoners. 113,000 miles (ish, daily drive), 4 months MOT, taxed until end of March. As our daily drive it's reliable, always starting first time, and is mechanically sound. We currently get about 30mpg, pretty good for a vehicle with a 2.5 litre engine and the aerodynamics of a pile of breeze-blocks.

It has 235/85/16 tyres on steel rims all round, Panasonic CD/radio with front & rear speakers, alpine windows, sunroof, and a disklock anti-theft steering lock. It's been converted from its original 12 seat version to 5 seat and load area with bungee tie-downs and a removable bulkhead and mesh panel; dogs can get wet and/or muddy and the back can be cleaned easily. These are removable in less than a minute if you want to put large stuff in the back, and the rear seats fold too. You can fit an awful lot into the inside of a 110 model Defender if you need to. The bodywork & seats are in fairly good condition, they're not pristine but are typical for a Defender of this age. All the electricals are fine, as is the heater (although it takes a while to warm up, typically Defender!) I don’t have a tow-bar or electrics installed, but as you can see the holes are drilled in the cross-member for attachment and the electrics go through a grommet into one of the rear light clusters where connectors are installed. It's a good example of a 15 year old vehicle.

Although I know little of its previous history, in the time we've had it it has been well maintained and the typical older Defender problems have all been sorted out. The outriggers and chassis are in good condition, and a new heavy duty (6mm) rear cross-member has been fitted by our local Land Rover specialist. I’ve changed the filters & oil, replaced the propshaft universal-joints front & rear, replaced track-rod ends and steering ball-joint, rear anti-roll-bar link, clutch master-cylinder, and fitted a new fuel-tank. It sailed through its recent MOT. I've removed the centre front seat, & replaced it with a cubby box, and removed the rear bench seats. I still have the front centre seat if you want it, the rear bench seat-belt fixings and lap-belts for the front centre and rear bench-seats. If you're at all handy with a box of spanners you'll be able to do your own maintenance, saving a fortune and keeping your running costs low. The Defender really is a simple beast to work on. I have electronic copies of all the Land Rover service info and electrics etc which I can give you to help if you want.

I've had a few tyre-kickers come and see the beastie, but it's still for sale.
With another cold witer in the offing, this reliable mean machine will get you through rain, floods, snow and mud.
Sensible offers may be entertained...

Thanks Andy, but because the missus is going to be doing a lot more miles next year we need something that will do a lot more mpg. If we could manage the same mpg there'd be no need to get rid of the defender!
