quote for a spray job

i took the defender to a spray shop today for a quote for a strip and spray quote!

i want a really good job doing!

the quote included all prep work sanding filling the few dents etc taking the doors bonnet windows and spraying inside the cab and spaying the roof bonnet and vents black and the rest in ice white and doing raptor lining the tub and wax oil on the 2 axles (chassis is galvanised)

they said it would be 2 weeks in the shop.

now the price is £2000.00 WOW is this what a good spray job costs?

There's a lot of hours of work in it, probably not the cheapest you will get but depends on the quality if work. Other thing to consider is are you going to scratch it off road if so then may e look for a cheaper option

I've been quoted way more than that to do a full inside and outside spray job, to change the complete colour with a strip down is between 3500 and 5000.
Sounds good as long as the quality is good too.

I have just done mine myself , and the paint and materials alone cost over £600 .
I have a restoration shop and £2000 for a full strip and paint seems pretty good if to a high quality especially if they are stripping , prepping and reassembling .

Just my 2 cents .

not if done right ,it does if an ammateur puts it on 1/2 inch thick

i have considered doing it myself buying a compressor ect but the big problem is i have no were big enough to spray it the landy only just gos into the single garage!

and if it is going to cost 1K ish for the paint tools etc i rather have it done in the spray shop.

that sounds about right, you can get cheaper paint jobs, but they paint over bird sh*t the lol

Thats a fair price mine is in at present and its being done at mates rates and that 1200 notes for a full respray

i find steel is ok but defender panels tend to spit off filler after a short while even if its just a light skim once it gets bounced about off road a few times...

That does sound like a cracking deal. 2000 pieces for the entire job, inside and out plus all prep work. If done to a high standard there is many many man hours in that job. Where is this place, I'll be giving them a call lol

Homebase value roller and tray £5, homebase value roller refills £2 for 5 IIRC, NATO green paint £30 for 5L, homebase value masking tape 65p IIRC

will see if i can get satin white?

its allready satin nato green may just leave it and do the roof bonnet and vents in satin black.

i get a sander this week and start rubbing it down!

did mine meself in my mates lockup took about 6 weeks inc total strip and rebuild,just doin it in evenings and weekends plus other jobs done aswell,i used aluminium filler didn't have any probs with it.

cost me about £275 in materials and prep bits etc

2 pak primer and paint..sprayed on
