Hi my 1968 series 2a 88in has no drive will go into gear take foot off the clutch and nothing happens, it can be put into gear engine running with out putting the clutch pedal down, this happened about 2years ago had tobe unceremoniously towed home put it in the garage for a few months then got it out still no drive checked a few other things then noticed that the master cylinder needed topping up not by much after topping it up I was able to get drive, this time the master cylinder was full, there's no drive in any of the gears hi or low, does anyone have any ideas?

Try it in low ratio if you have free wheel hubs on front engage them as rear half shaft may be faulty.
Also try in 4th Gear as layshaft can fail in gear box.

Jack each corner up in turn and see if the wheel goes round with the hand brake on

Remove the hub flange and pull them out and have a look at each end.

On my old Series it used to be the common thing for the shafts to shear at the diff.

If that has happened, you will need to remove the diff end extricate the broken end, then put it all back together again with a new half shaft.

When you put it back together again, replace the paper flange gaskets, but give them a smear of oil first!

It is less complicated than it sounds. :D

Beat me to it James ;)

Some good advice from people who have a lot of experience I will try your advice thanks, just another question would I have got some warning to this problem as there was none one minute it was working parked it up next time I used it no drive.

If you suddenly lost drive check the red lever is fully forward and not in neutral.
If that is ok put the yellow lever down to engage 4 wheel drive, if it drives then you most likely bust a rear half shaft.

Get some one to look under to see if prop shaft spins when in gear and just trying to edge forward. Prop will spin but vehicle not move if a drive shaft is broken.

Thanks for all the advice have checked the half shafts all seem okay, have checked red and yellow levers again they are in position, could it be the slave cylinder? Or the condition of the fluid? What about the clutch? Just grasping at straws!

Best post up your locality some one may live near enough to come and have a look with you.
Have you tried 4th Gear?

Thanks Blackburn I think I have tried it in fourth have tried it in all the gears is fourth different from the others?

Fourth is direct drive through main shaft does not use lay shaft [they have been known to snap].
Do you have an over drive fitted?
If you lift the centre seat out and the plate under it there is two small square plates on transfer box RH one is where high low ratio gears are.
Put high low ratio into neutral start engine and engage gear you should be able to see the front cog turning after removing small plate.
If not remove the other small plate at gearbox output and look in there whilst engine running should be able to see output gear turning at different speeds in different gears.
If none of these are moving then its floor out and remove gearlever assembly the small plate on there allows you to see into clutch.
Should be able to see flywheel turning not sure if you can actually see clutch operating . Should not be lots of oil around.
