Quick V8 i Classic relay ID question

Anybody know what / if relay there should be here ?
Got a feeling it fell off



Had a long term intermittent start problem with the poor old girl but after about 4 years discovered an almost invisible ballast resistor behind the passenger side suspension turret - really out of view and the connector is a crap trap.
Anyway all was well till last week, just been having a look and convinced a relay 'used' to be in this socket.
Any ideas ?
Scoured the wiring diagrams in the haynes manual till the eyes bled but cant find what this is ....

Any help much appreciated !

What motor is it? 3.5/3.9 Hot wire or flapper? Is it a Vogue or Vogue SE?

I'm not aware of a relay in the location shown, certainly not on my 3.9 Vogue SE. Also, colours of the wires seems a bit odd, you sure it isn't a bit of DIY wire somebody else has put in there?

3.5 vogue - on a D plate Injection with the flapper intake.

It goes right into the loom - the relay holder - i'm guessing should be there as theres a tab for it to slide onto on the bulkhead and keep it in place.
have a couple of utube clips of it starting but cant see the relay unfortunately

Just been scouring the daily blog entries too and sadly no close up of that part of the engine

So if anyone has one of these or sees one would be grateful if you could have a look and see what relay is there.
Memory says damned sure there was one - that and it's too clean for it to have been empty all the years of field bashing - mud gets everywhere in the winter.

Go back to the manual - have a look at Section 13, supplementary information - Fig.13.169 and 13.171 may well be the answer.

Thanks for that, didnt know there were diagrams rather than trying to find it on the main wiring diagrams (which might as well be in greek to me)

It's not the fuel cut off relay, that little blighter lives near the coil. A daft place in fact and a culprit of a lot of problems.

Came very close to scrapping the old horse quite a few times because of an erratic starting problem - which in case anyone ever needs to know...
Behind the passenger side suspension turret in the engine bay - and this is so out of sight you need a mirror or you wouldnt know it was there - is a ballast resistor. Looks like a little ecu unit about the size of a pack of superkings.
Effectively you can completely overlook it and not know it's there, and when your messing about swapping plugs etc etc you can easily inadvertantly touch the loom to that cables.
That connection at the bottom of teh ballast resistor is just an awful moisture trap.
So for example you might do the rounds of all likely suspects when it wont start - and jiggle that loom to plug just enough to actually make it temporarily good and it will run fine.
Needs a good clean and daubing with vaseline once clipped back in - or ideally what i'm doing before winter is unbolt it and put it somewhere visible in a ziplock bag sealed up with silicone ( not worried about refinements - never go on the road with it)

It's been the biggest PITA to discover, this is my 4th RR and if it wasn't for the tuned from new factory replacement (40k miles now but 40ish% + more power) and the what was rediculously expensive handling pack would have said goodbye to it long ago.
Apart from being a really handy almost tractor/dumper the challenge of keeping it going is good for the old composure

So still no wiser on the relay,
Hold on spoke too soon !!!! Was looking at the wrong diagram on 13.169 it's identicle - number 9 - ignition pick up point - that is it !!! (i was looking at 13.170 fuel cut off relay)
What that does heavens knows but it's not shown there with a relay in it.

All I can say is that if you is in Orkney, tha's a long long way to go for a beer . I know was up there a couple of years ago sortin out a storm damage type incident.

Well you never know - Weekend before last had load of the guys round for beer from the morris minor owners club (been hooked on mogs since discovering the cheapness to run and easyness to fix ) and they drove up from lands end for the annual vintage show here !
Oh and it'll probably fall to bits before i break it - only so much gaffer tape can do

Thanks for the offer. I in't too worried, who knows one day Orkney will be able to return the favour. After all that's wot it's all about in't it. Weees all jist trying to get to where weees goin and we all need a little elp ere an there.

If wee couldn't share our knowledge/experience/talents ere an there where the eck wuld we be??
