I Have found a full rear axle for a Landrover stage 1 v8. from what I know these have the 3.54 ratio diffs, AND a salisbury on the rear

only thing is its a fair distance from me, and the person selling has offered me the crown wheel and pinion (a lot easier to ship) for cheaper

so how easy is it to swap the crown wheel and pinion. and will it fit straight into my current rear axle?

my current one has a leaking pinion seal anyway.

Never done it but getting the diff out of a salisbury axle is not a simple as just unbolting it like you would with a rover axle.

ah. might not bother then the current gearing does the job

one other question, the right rear axle seems to be leaking on the end. i filled it with oil recently and noticed it had sprayed all over the outside of the wheel and tire and the outside of the vehicle too.

which seal should I be replacing for that?

its a straight forward job .in that you can pull out diff carrier and swap crown wheel ,and remove pinion nut and remove pinion but you will need serious sockets and bars for reassembly + some times you can be lucky and just refit but if you need to adjust backlash and preload it becomes a bit harder, and you dont need a spreader to do job, ive done it both ways 3.5 to 4.7 ,4.7 to 3.5,its not complicated but removing brgs and tightening pinion requires serious tools
