Ok I made the mistake of not going through the six million reasons a Discovery turns into a fish tank. So now I'll do a run down of what problems I can see and you can tell me to search the forum or laugh at how little I know my vehicle or whatever. Here are my questions...

1. The sound proofing or "sponge" as it should be more aptly named in the driver side footwell, under that should there be a hole? The floor pan looks to be in good nick but there's a drilled perfect circle hole, is this supposed to be here and if so is it supposed to have a plug in it?

2. Windscreen, on the driver side at the top there's a white line of I assume condensation. Would you think this means the seals are gubbed?

2.1 The rubber windscreen surround at the top is loose, I can easily slide my finger along the inside, is this supposed to be flush with body or is it supposed to be tucked in underneath?

3. Where is the water supposed to go from the pan under the bonnet/ front window? I noticed there were drilled holes along this, some being used as mounting points for various engines bits and other having wee black stickers over them. Are these all supposed to be sealed off?

4. Unrelated, I noticed the two points were the front bumper is bolted on at either side are hanging down. Has anyone seen this, do I need to get those two attach points welded back up so the bumper sits flush with the body again?

I'll be back soon with photos.

Oh and it's a 98 "S" Discovery 300Tdi ES

So this is the way the top window seal is just now and you can see the little line of condensation, obviously more condensation than normal because I've been at it with a hair dryer all day trying to dry out the foot well.

I was wondering if the seal should actually be tucked in like this

Because at the moment I can get my finger behind it easily like this

This is the hole in the foot well that I didn't know if it should be pluuged or what, I can see it's purpose for letting water out but surely like this it would let it in too :scratching_chin:

Then this is the bit in the engine bay I was wondering about, the wee sticker is loose so any water in the recess under the window could just come through, should this be sealed to keep all the drain water under the window?

And finally here's my bumper problem but this looks like the most obvious fix unless you tell me this is extremely common and requires sixty billion pounds to fix in which case I'm going to jump off a bridge.

Apart from all that It's a great car though, honest.

Fooking ell wish that was the only hole in my floor i had to worry about . yes thats holes to get the body mount bolt through if you need to replace the mounting rubber.

Bumper problem, best you go find a high bridge and get ready to jump, :D looks like the bumper mount has ripped away from the wing, possibly because the bumper has been caught and twisted or just cos the wing has corroded away.

Looks like the windscreen has dropped thats why the rubber has gone into the windscreen reses, the white line in the glass could be the laminate failing but hard to tell from photo.

The bumper is the same as mine, i stripped the cap off and fixed a strip of alluminium along the torn area then redrilled for the bolt, a bit of fiddling and its all back on nicely. I painted the strip satin black and its practically invisible.

Windscreen condensation, has got in to the laminate of the screen.
I have about 3" rising from the lower corner but concealed by the black hatching at the side of the screen.

Top windscreen rubber, that's normal but it looks like the rubber could do with a bit of TLC.
I cleaned mine with petrol and then use a rubber dressing which makes the rubber more flexable and it will then lay as it should.

Hole in the floor, there are a few blank grommets in the floor so one of your is missing just replace or cover with duck tape.

Hole stikers there a few and some do peel away just cut a replacement using duct tape.

Bumper end cap support, if the bracket isn't broken try adjusting by loosing the nuts at the rear and lifting the endcap into position and do up the nuts, that worked for me when I came back to to the disco a carpark and found my end cap looking like that. :)

It's my first car (I never know whether to say car or truck, never call it a jeep though obviously) and I get paranoid about every little thing that isn't right about it which, being a discovery, means I have a lot to concern myself with.

So basically a big roll of gaffer tape will sort everything, even the bumper bit probably... joking about that.

When I'm cleaning up the top seal of the windscreen do you think it might be worthwhile using some sealant/ silicone etc in the gap as well until I can afford new trim?

Clean the trim and you won't have a gap.

Does it tuck under the roof then? I can't find a decent photo or guide to how it should look so I'm a bit stumped, the reason I thought it should be sealed was this...

I'll have a bash at it tomorrow, hopefully we get more uncharacteristic autumn sunshine for me to work in :biggrin1:

Did the trim with some vaseline today, looks a lot better. Put duct tape over the holes that bothered me (soaked me), refit the carpet properly too. Then I went to open the boot and the handle jammed, couldn't be opened from inside either  but I just unclipped the land rover oval and sprayed some wd-40 in and it freed up and started working again. Felt like giving it a kick though giving me another headache just as I patched up some others :mil34:

Relax daddio. Your getting too stressed. Thats why they call them Discoverys . Every day you discover a new problem.:D. I put a very thin bead of silicone behind the windscreen rubber [and everywhere it was suspect] it seems to have done the trick.Good luck but youve got more chance of winning the lottery than making a Discovery water tight.! :hysterically_laughi

Wait till the screen gets damaged by a stone and then get auto glass to replace screen through your insurance. They did mine and put new seals in. This stopped lots of water problems. Use the air con to dry out the inside. Just make sure the squids are clear under the transmission tunnel to let water out.
