Hi,

My FL2 Metropolis is coming up to the end of its PCP and I'm toying with options. Top of the wish list is the DS HSE Dynamic, although not sure if it'll be out of my price range. However, I have a question about the new engines, and gearbox.

Firstly, my FL2 has the 2.2 SD4 which has 190bhp and 450Nm torque IIRC but the DS engine I'd probably be looking at is the TD4 180bhp which has 430Nm. For those that have gone from the Old FL2 SD4 to the new 180hp TD4 did you notice a reduction in drive/power? I know there's the 240hp Diesel but it's very pricey.

Also, I'm concerned that with the loss of HP and torque, as well as the extra 3 gears that it will be forever changing gear, especially with just the slightest hint of acceleration. Is this the case?

Any help appreciated.

You're at the bleeding edge there mate, most people on here have pretty old land rovers and won't have much experience of the new ones. Try asking in 15 years when most of us lot can afford one. Are the D5 aluminium? Could more than make up for less power if so. Hope you enjoy it either way.

Oops  :p

It's faster, smoother, and does more mpg! Borrowed one a few weeks ago, compared to fl2 it's a seriously nice drive!
Thanks for the info. Did you find it was always changing gear or didn't you notice?

You could try asking another new forum member, JB1 (I won't tag him, that would just be too much and the wrong thing to do in this case) but if you do decide to go for a D5, then do be careful to check that you have the correct number of vents on the climate control ....

Thanks for the info, I'll check that out.

That's the point, as the ratios are slightly closer to one another, they are seamless changes, you don't know it's happened unless you watch the rev counter.
It's the same for the eight speed boxes in the bigger models

don't like the gearbox rotary dials they've now fitted on new models , they look abit naff

am impressed how silky smooth my 6 x speed is , so can just imagine what the 8 x speed ones are like
