Hi All

I went to look at a freelander over the weekend, 06 reg TD4. all good except for a split in a pipe. The pipe was one of two flexi pipes that went into a black plastic box located on the right hand side of the engine bay (if your stood in front of the car looking in) between the battery and the fuse box. Any idea whats in the box and what it does?

Is the pipe/hose easy to get hold of, is it a LR dealer part only?

Should this put me off the purchase, I presume not, it is only a pipe after all. I can't for the live of me think what the box mught be?

Sorry for the silly question, this will be the first of many I'm afraid.

Thanks

Mr Plow

Well if this is the first of many questions, I should get over to the "Introduce Yourself" section first. Only polite eh?

Fair enough, will do it now.

I was going to honestly :D My intention was to wait until I was an owner.

Cheers

The two pipes below the two that go into the bulkhead?

They look like wire carriers to me.

Ha Ha a picture makes it so much easier. Thank you.

Now I can see you're right, the two hoses I was referring to are the lighter grey ones in the picture. If they are cable carriers I wonder why one of them is covered in a black thick oily mixture.

Where could it come from?

It's a land rover, the bits not covered in oil are the ones to watch out for ;)

If it's split, I wouldn't be overly concerned. If everything else is OK and that's the only issue, Go for it :)

If you are referring to the ones front right, the oil is more than likely coming from the large, short 90degree elbow that is to the left which has probably split

If the oil is coming OUT of the split I would worry about it !!, there shouldn't be any thick gunky anything in those cable carriers, the one at the rear carries the harness for the fuel injectors if that harness is covered in oil it will need replacing, I would get the guy to take off the cover with the Land Rover logo (3 small screws) to see where the gunk is coming from, also open the box with the ECU in it to make sure the oil hasn't found its way up into the box....

Thanks Guys for all the replies. I'm going back for another look at the weekend so will let you know how I get on.

Cheers
