Hi, I have a '13 Freelander 2.
I'm trying to play MP3 files (1950's radio recordings of Sci Fi stories) from a memory stick in the USB port.
The files are all visible and play from the stick on the original computer.
However, when I try to play them in the vehicle it is very hit and miss.
It seems random as to whether a file will play, even from the same original disc.
The same ones play or not every time I try. An "Invalid file format" error message appears if the file is not recognised.
In the handbook it says that to use the USB port files should be in FAT or FAT 32 format, but this is the only place I can find reference to this.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Might be to do with the O/S. iTunes MAC and Windows never liked each other sometimes you ended up formatting for one or the other. Try using a blank USB STICK see if this recognise the file MSDOS FAT FAT32 NTFS in the car first. Then see if any files appear when you stick this in a PC.

Do all mp3 files fail?
To all of use having this problem of mp3 not playing, I think I have solved the problem at least it would seam so for myself, so I have 2014 FL2 HSE and the issues around the mp3 is the type of codec that is use, so to start off any USB stick, pen drive or any other name that is use MUST be formatted in FAT32 after that has been done folders and files can be transferred. Now to the codec issue, it would seam that the media player is very particular as to what type is used, I found that LAME codec is the one that works any others cause problems, you will need to look at the probertites of any mp3 you wish to play and convert them to LAME, there are may free software applications that can do this a quick search on Google will bring up plenty, but the one I used which will allow batch conversion is dbPoweramp it has a 21day free trial, hope this helps

Having just purchased a Metropolis with the same problem I have downloaded the program recommended and run it through all my music files ( format to MP3 LAME) using the 21 day free trial and pleased to report that they all now play from the memory stick. If a dinosaur like me can do it then it must be easy.
Thanks ever so much for taking the time to share your findings, much appreciated
