Push to start switch

I can see a lot of you don't like the push start idea! Fair enough I'd agree if it was road use vehicle but when I was watching the mud monsters challenge a few weeks back, a lot of them had push buttons! Can't see the problem with having one with ignition switch for a off road based vehicle?

Like you say, its your motor, do what you want to it. :)

It really isn't hard to do, break into the starting circuit with a switch and mount the switch on the dash. Get a defender manual and trace the wiring circuit.

It's just easier than making sure the key is with or if the key gets lost! As I say it's under lock and key with alarm! It's to be taking out on the trailer behind my 90

I like starting with a push button, my 90 is getting one and switches for ignition like your plans.
I can build in a security system to switch off when not needed, ignition barrel not a deterrent to thieves anyway, it will nly slow them down if they rip the cowling off only to find no wires:eek:;):D

Hang on guys! This is for off road only! Building it as a winch challenge truck that's why I'm not worried about security on it as it's living in the workshop that has an alarm! I want to fit a simple ignition flick switch and push button so I haven't got to worry about having the key ect

Sorry if its not for road use just pat me on the head and say "there there" now and again.

Go for it my wife's track day bike is similar no ignition key required has a kill switch and a start button that's all. It passes scrutineering at the tracks that bother to look at it.

Job done!

if there able to get into a locked, alarmed workshop just for his defender i dont think the difference between a defender ignition barrel or a switch is really going to make a difference. if anything it may hold them up a second as they will need to find the isolater on it which i expect it will have i dont see the problem as it gives the same effect. You could go on all day about security but if the theives are willing to get into a workshop for it you aint gunna stop them unless you gotta gun

This is my bike engined car dash, everything's in the middle nothing on the coloum, there is a barrel the but doesn't work not wired in,

I may regret asking, but whats the big f-off loop of wire for that goes thru the cutout switch?

On the out side of competion cars rally cars ect, you have a power isolator and fire extinguisher pull handle linked to the internal ones that must be within easy reach of the driver when strapped in, so any marshell can turn the car off and active the fire system from out side if the driver is trapped

Just been reading this thread! its interesting listening about security and clamps, locks, alarms. Been living in the isle of man 10 years now and i havent locked my car once in that time, half the time i dont even lock my house! Its sad that people still pinch cars this day and age; spose its a social comment on society. Dont get me wrong i grew up in newcastle in the 80's where i think TWOCing was born, that was kids doing it for a buzz; but now it seem like a business. ****s!
