Been trying fir years havent they ?
Suspect its more to do with people who own older diesels have a tendancy to know how to fix them as they dont need a computer to tell them whats wrong,

The environmental pollution and natural resource consumption required to make a new car to replace those that have been scrapped would FAR outweigh any proposed benefit on a global scale. Of course new cars are made in China and India and no one cares if they poison their atmosphere or water ways.
The idea that everything should be bought from new, used until it breaks, thrown away and replaced with a nice new shinny version simply isn't compatible with our future.
If we don't learn to reuse and fix things we are all fooked.

Strange the RAC wanting to scrap the older stuff - they've NO chance of fixing the new electronic ****ery when it go wrong - only the main dealers can play with that!

Doubt they want to fix them, easier and cheaper for them to just dump people at a garage.

couple of weeks ago my disco 1 ate its cam belt again.....
RAC were called, the man asked whats wrong,
I said I think its the cam belt, he looked in the oil filler cap while I spun the engine over.
he replaced the filler cap while looking around under the bonnet then asked -
SO, what do you want to do, with an air of expectance..
I replied - got recovery - want that..
he sighed but went and spoke on his radio for recovery....
really think he wanted me to scrap my disco......

newer diesels, produce more harmful pollutants than older according to what i heard , particles are so small they enter the blood stream

it was on radio 4 , it was an interview with pollant experts,and the irony that attempt to clean car emissions had made it it more harmful im many ways,they were suggesting just petrol was used,and you were just as at risk in a car as on a bike as car cabin filters cant stop it ,though obviously your going to breath harder cycling

ah, may be the reason particulate filters have to be serviced or cleaned - praps
on newer diesels..
as mine normaly runs on a bio mix, it dont seem to want to smoke black stuff...
but admit I only press the right pedal slowly to let the turbo spool up to speed..
not done any trickery adjusting stuff, its as I got it years ago,
and I`m quite happy with that...

it was the particular filters that were part of the issue i believe, they stop the big stuff but not the cancer causing very small stuff, the stuff you can see the lungs in the main filter out

While the "15 largest ships pollute in terms of particles and soot and noxious gases as much as all the cars in the world", I think the RAC and anyone else that wants high emission cars gone can #### 'emselves. As if our little engines are making a dent.
We (diesel users) will be an easy target, and the tree huggers will win in the end. I don't know what the answer is. But I do know that all the do gooders in this world still travel by plane, ship, bus or car, and make themselves feel better by pontificating over the rest of us.

Actually - I'm not too sure about that: In the main - Fire Engines? Diesel powered. Ambulances? diesel powered. HGVs & public transport? Diesel powered. Armed forces vehicles? Diesel powered. Backup generators for hospitals and such? Diesel powered...
With no health service to get to them easily and nothing to put their fires out the tree huggers will burn... We win!
Exempt. It will be do as i say...not as i do... as usual.
