Good people,

Has anyone stripped down a diesel pump on here?

Or does anyone know of the specs for the pump, ie ramp angles, plunger size, head size etc?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Tom

Ring Diesel Jones in Manchester on 03337720659 tell them what you intend to do. When they stop laughing. Give them the part number off your pump. Which providing it has not had a replacement pump off another make of vehicle fitted, and the top changed over so that it works on your RR, is all the info they will need to supply you with all the parts you need. But it may work out cheaper to order a refurbished pump.

You will of course have the calibration machine to set the electronics up with?

If none of the thousands of pounds worth of electronic equipment that I have is not able to do it then I will either invest in one that can or find someone that has and either pay them to do it or borrow it so I can do it.

I don't get why they will be laughing but thank you for the information.

If you are experienced at this sort of thing then rock on, if you are not they will be laughing. Stripping and rebuilding if you know what you are doing is pretty simple. Setting up unless you have the specific equipment to calibrate injection pumps is not. The question you asked would seem to indicate you are not experienced. If i wanted to strip and rebuild my pump i would not need to come on here and ask questions. I know how to do it and what is involved in the process. Not knocking you just pointing out the drawbacks. What do you do for a living?;)

Wammers, I'm lost. I was asking for specs not instructions on how to do it.

Ok fair do's get it done. What exactly is wrong with your pump? Only thing that goes wrong mostly is pot tracks on quantity servo. Maybe now and again emergency stop solenoid. Or temp sensor, and seals that don't like the crap they put in diesel these days.. Everything else lasts a very long time unless you are daft enough to use cooking oil in it.

The seals are the main thing as it's continuously leaking. I would rather be prepared and have everything I could possibly need so I'm not without it and left with an immovable vehicle for a couple of days.

Stripping down and replacing seals is a pretty simple job. However getting the mid section back into the same position to agree with the electronics is not. Several scribe marks mid to bottom part before disassembly and careful realignment is needed. Even then it can be slightly out. If you are not having problems with stalling whilst stopping at lights or with low speed steering inputs or MIL lamp flickering on when coming out of cruise, quantity servo pots should be fine. Don't touch it or play with it whilst stripped. You will need a sprocket holder for removing pump and a timing adaptor, DTI and engine locking pin to do static. Do not whatever you do, remove pump unless sprocket holder is in place. You will have to use judgement when stripped for replacement of internal components. But if all is good running wise other than seals leaking don't think you will need any.
